Aren't we being a little pedantic about the term 'DJ' here..?
Surely its merely a blanket term which can be acceptably used to cover all types of 'performers of electronic music'. In the end 99% use it incorrectly anyway, and have no clue what a 'live act' actually is.
outside of forums, of course.

so bleak i missed that party... so so bleak.
i'm now facing the reality of not returning to SA for another entire year.. and there's not much psy here (until summer in europe, that is). missing it like hell.
so as not to be entirely off topic..
shift, artifakt, tristan (dj), proculture... aaaaah i don't have the energy to think of dj's..
if live - AZAX AZAX AZAX!! i love him as much as glitch does. and digital talk. and menog.

DJ's are actually becomming a rare breed as LIVE acts become more and more the booked gig , youll start to see more and more artists phase them selves out of DJ'ing and doing more music production and writing music as thats were the gigs are so asking what your fav DJ lineup is actually a really challenging task as there arent many guys out there who focus solely on DJ'ing

I agree.. and disagree..
you say that "more artists are phasing themselves out of dj'ing and . . . writing music as thats where the gigs are" - surely these artists are doing so for the love of creating music? in the end someone doesn't learn guitar to be able to play a hendrix solo properly, but rather to be able to play his/her own solo with great skill. dj'ing and production are completely different animals, and are thus incomparable.. although there is a distinct overlap in the sense that a mix is in fact 'created'... however this is extremely limited. one might mix well, just like one might play a hendrix solo well, but in the end its not a from-scratch compilation of notes/chords to make a final piece, which is completely one's own.
i do agree, however, with the relevance of the distinction in terms of compiling a list of favourites... what i meant above was merely that i thought that the original poster meant any artists - live or dj.. which was my interpretation of this thread.

ya...the pure dj is a rare breed esp. amoungst the so-called big guns....
It would BE WRONG to say that live sets take no skill.... WOULDNT IT 
and indeed this is your fav. dj lineup and not live act/artist. |
