It depends how long you need it to supply power.
I don't know any names for UPS but i think mostly it is enough to have some time to shut down the system.            Signature

Yes i use. Im using a APC Smart Ups RT 1000 VA for the whole studio (lots of HW).

A few tips:
- Use a online ups, this type uses the battery all the time and converts the power AC->DC->AC so you have stable 220v/50hz (or whatever you need) no matter what spikes or over/under voltages you have on the net. No net related problems with noise from e-motors, drills or similar.
- The switching upses protect you just in case of a power failure but do nothing good for the quality of your power supply
- Check the noise level of the ups, mine is very good but very loud. Really loud. No way to use it in the studio. To many fans
- If you go to apc.com you should find a calculator for your power requirements.
- You have to think about two things. 1. How much power your equipment needs so you not overload the ups 2. How long you need power in case of a power failure

Ah, one more thing: the batteries last only around 2 years, so you have to replace them regulary!

ive got a mustek 800va online with no fans its dead quiet and keeps my pc-450watt 2 monitors and pair of studio monitors for 20 minutes alive iff power fails

i think its more than ok for saving and shut down safely if power fails

keep in mind that you have to chek its power handling every 2 months and as said allready change batteries every 2 years
