Well, so my tracks often suffer from upload distortion, and it varies according to the tracks total dB

Is there a way for me to end this? i upload tracks as .wav

At 48000 sample rate

and 24bit, though i don't think this is relevant

haven't really been looking into this kind of stuff tho, maybe it's time?            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

if you master them ,try to make them peak less than -0.5 db

also try to uplaod them at the sample rate and bit depth /format (wav mp3...) required it could maybe avoid the file to be converted ..
have no idea how it s working with soundcloud though

maybe it s old but i find this on a forum for soundcloud

"we suggest uploading in 320kbps 44.1kHz with at least -3db of headroom.

This will produce the best results. MP3s will have more pronounced recoding artifacts and lossless formats will be slightly better."

go look into soundcloud help desk

i think its the 4800 sample rate , its used for video and harder for soundcloud to convert down?.

Well then, if i need 3dB Headroom in the mixer, how can i make the mix louder, without having the track peak above -3 dB?

Compressing the shit?            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe

all online streaming mashes audio in appalling ways (youtube, soundcloud, bandcamp etc.)

just allow downloads and recommend that people download and play instead of streaming.

on soundcloud the download is at the same quality as you upload it.

and yes, it's recommended to leave more headroom for streamed files because of all the horrible low bit rate processing/real time sample rate conversion that is applied. so, you can have it loud and distorted, or quieter and clean, your choice, but loud AND clean is gonna be impossible.

hopefully this problem will end in a few years when we have enough bandwidth for HD audio streaming.           http://hermetechmastering.com : http://www.discogs.com/artist/Gregg+Janman : http://soundcloud.com/babaluma

just ask them man . thats their job. they will answer you and should add this in to their FAQ .

this is what they told me quite awhile ago :

"Hey ,

The bit depth is 128kbps 44.1khz 16bit. Uploading works with most file types.

If you want to remove the glitches in the highs, I'd recommend uploading .wav. Some mp3 encoders've kept giving issues with pops and glitches due to the double compression that gets applied to the track.

You can upload in as high quality .wav you want. For streaming it's automatically converted down to 128kbps mp3. Downloading the song (not streaming), however, will give people the original wav file - just be aware of that!"

They have really great support and i'm even not paying , they deserve respect for that. Good job after all. So all the times you are angry and frustrated about artifact you could just ask. upload in the same quality and try it out. I'm not sure you need that much headroom. so no 24bit either

soundcloud audio converters r shit,, they can do 1 thing,,, for premier account users, ,, for users who pay for a account,, those guys should get better audio converters for streaming.. better than 128 kpbs atleast.. that way i guess they will get more ppl to buy accounts there... and from my experience, if i upload in mp3, most of the time i will get skips, glitches... but if i upload in wave, the sound is much better and no glitches,, but there may be a reason behind soundcloud not improving their streaming capacity to higher bit rates, cause then ppl have to upload larger files, and that may be helping the soundcloud gys commercially. they should definately improve their streaming bitrates, no matter what their current excuses are.

I can write that to soundclouds official feeback group, maybe someone will listen... Absolutely correct. And by the way, there is a significant quality difference between my tracks

Leaving -3dB and upload file under 48000 is the bestest.

.... I'm gonna quote you by the way and tell soundcloud this is the truth.            http://soundcloud.com/li-fe
