Hi everyone,

I've been working for some days now on producing my own Uplifter and Downlifter sounds ( rising wooooOOOOOOUUHHHHH sounds so common in psy trance).

I have tried using a simple synth ( 3x osc in FL studio) and shifting its pitch, but the result is more than mediocre...

Any suggestions on good vst's or any techniques you use to create good sounds ?

Thank you !

Where can I get more uplifter samples ?           "Do not try and bend the spoon. That's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth."

I have tons of uplifters samples. I want to know how to create one.
Not where to download one.

How can playing with ADSR lead to producing uplifter sounds? can you explain a bit more mate ?

Thanks for your help.

make pitch+filter sweep and spice it with effects           www.sattelbattle.com

you can also make it instead in the main pitch on the osc pitch
first rise 1 osc
then the 2nd
then 3rd

so you have layers of sweep           www.sattelbattle.com

My advice is to NOT.USE.SAMPLES for this. Riser/Downer sounds are one of the easiest (imo) to make, and some of the most fun to play with. No disrespect elastic but it is more a waste of time to use the downloaded samples for this than to learn something by making them yourself imo - getting past using downloaded samples (or relying on them too much) was one of the biggest steps for me and I feel my synthesis and originality has much improved since then.

There are countless ways to make them - the easiest is to either pitch your source up or down over time with a pitch envelope - set the attack of the envelope to the length of your intended rise or fall, so for instance you have a 10 second long piece that you want to rise. Throw it into a sampler, activate pitch envelope (or route pitch to an envelope if your synth doesn't have a dedicated one), set it to +/- 12/24/36/48 and set your attack to 10 seconds.

This will make it rise or fall, but by itself it can sound somewhat simple. Try trance gating parts or all of the rise/fall, reverse the audio and add some reverse reverb, bounce down the resultant rise/fall and glitch out parts with manual audio editing to not make it so boring...

Also, one of my favorites is to have a delay sent to itself on a send, and automate that delay send to kick in right at the very end of the rise/fall so that it echoes away into the distance.

also instead of a pitch env you could try opening/closing a filter on a busy signal. This is done quite a bit with white noise...white noise osc + some reverb and then slowly open it up, then right at the end make a sharp automation curve so that it really smacks you.

Oh yeah Tsabeat +1 - in my latest track I have one track called "going down" and one track called "going up" - and instead of just going up or just going down, I play with it a little bit and go down, up, down down up up blah blah and then finally go all the way up....i think it works really well and would be fun to dance to            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Cheers for your explanations dude !

You got me on a good lead. Within 2 minutes I was about 2000% closer to the sound I'm looking for than any samples I could download.

I don't understand the samples obsession with such sounds. They're apparently easy to produce and only you can calibrate perfectly for your song !!

I'll try it a bit and get back to you when I have questions!

its easy with audio too in cubase

take a bit of audio you like the sound of.
stretch it to fit / taste.
fade in.
off line pitch shifting up or down to taste.

just use VST automation (which looks somehow like a ramp) on osc/filter/amp parameters ...           http://www.myspace.com/realtimeproject

And you can use an LFO for example on the pitch/cutoff and automate the rate up and down.
