Hey guys,
Well i'm thinking of upgrading to a standalone DAC. Currently i'm using the FF400 & i'm starting to think that it has too many features which i'm not using.
For example i'm not using the built in mic preamps on the FF400 & so i'm thinking of maybe selling it & buying a pci interface instead.
So what i want to do is to be able to use a stand alone DAC that will be connected via s/pdif to my pci interface (i'm thinking something like RME HDSP9632).
Then in the future when the need arises i'll buy a good A/D converter & preamps.
If i stick with the FF440 then i won't really be using it for much if i get standalone D/A & A/D converters & preamps.
Anyway, so i'm wondering if you guys can suggest some good pci interfaces that will match the reliability of FF400.

What was wrong with DAC-1 anyways? I thought u'd get it by now And if u go for usb version, than u don't need a pci card at all!

That's correct but what happens when inputs will be needed?
I guess if i would be doing that, would only be to save some extra money by selling the FF400 for the upcoming dac. And in that case i would check the cheapest but very good quality Echo Gina 3G.
Otherwise, i wouldn't sell the FF400 only because of its rock solid drivers.

I HAVE A ECHO GINA RUNNING ON MY OTHER CPU< ASIDE FROM MY RME FIREFACE 800
and i gotta say that the gina is a very nice soundcard plus very reliable, extremely matter of fact. so i can say if u need something with less inputs the gina would be a great buy, I've never looked back.
but anyways why would u sell ur rme, Id keep it...
my gina is just to route out to my mixer some more vst's and plugins. plus u never get back what u actually paid so in many cases u better off keeping it, my 2 cents! |

Well guys the FF400 is great but it's pointless since i'm not using half of its features. So the idea is to sell it & use half the money towards a pci interface & contribute the rest to getting a new DAC.
As i'm thinking of the future, all i'll need from the new interface will be reliable drivers & good latency. The rest will all be taken care of by outboard high-end gear eventually.
Trip, so 9632 seems like a good choice huh? Why aren't you just getting the pci version?

I see where u looking Well outboard would be greatest thing in your life or biggest disappointment! It's always deferent in every cases, but at least worth to trying. So if money not the issue than forget rme, benchmark DO make elite convertors and the deference would be very noticeable, u should really consider to check them out in the first place. But ofcose if u r looking to the future future future than u need multi channel converters to have possibilities to use finest processing of your outboard and lynx or hedd would be the best candidates IMHO.

Latest update:
I can sell my RME Fireface 400 for around $850. I can get a new DAC1 for around $926.
This means that either i can spend an extra $250 & use the DAC1 with something like a Echo MIAMIDI.
Or spend an additional $600 & get DAC1 + RME 9632. Can't make up my mind yet.

right now it's a delta66, using the spdif.
I would go for the RME for 3 reasons:
1 - impressive software router/mixer
2 - rock solid drivers (Windows/OSX)
3 - PCIe, AES i/o, independent headphone output.
that's that I suppose.
