Hey wizards 
I need some help here...
How you update your anti virus program (lets say McAfee) on your studio computer if it doesn’t connected to the internet?

That's a paradox my friend... If you don't have internet on your DAW you shouldn't have viruses. And even less you shouldn't have anti virus on it...

If it is posible to download the updates manually->save them and transsfer them to the right directory on the other machine... (?)
coz I havent found the way to do it yet...
sooo any ideas please??

I've seen plenty of studio computers with absolutely no AV installed. Would you believe me?
Seriously. The studio computer should have no Internet and all the executive files that are meant to be transferred to it should be scanned by AV before the transfer, and not transfer.
Also, AFAIK, most of the network AV scans are not as accurate as the scans on the actual computer. But i am not 100% sure about it.

if you run a different operating system, lets say an operating system only for music production, of course you shouldn´t have an anti virus on it, neither should you connect it to the internet. anyway you can just turn internet connection on whenever you want to update windows and i garantee you no virus will get inside your pc. anyway if you run a computer with 2 operating systems you can always check through the other operating system to see if the audio one has any virus on it.
even running the operating system with the minimum of programs on it like antivirus and antispywares and so on its not enough i couldn´t imagine if i ran my audio operating system with those kinds of programs!! |

is been 2 years since i had antivirus in my pc...
if u know how to surf, no need for such shit.
They only eat up your ram...
use online scan and a couple of other spyware and utilites to clean your pc every now and then...

pavel- well of course I can believe you and I already saw few studios my self with no AV utilities installed in them. But it was only in big expansive studios! (Make the connection yourself why it is like that )
By the way, in my studio there is no internet connection. And of course I run on all files checks before bring them inside my system!
But the viruses can be hidden inside applications files (such as *.exe). So anyway you can’t fight it with 100%. The best way is to scan the studio machine with a –up to date- AV.
**(THE PROBLEM IS HOW TO UPDATE IT!)**
chp- I don’t have net in the studio, so I cant do net checks (etc’...) and if I had... believe me I wasn’t posting such a topic!. I know how to handle those things.
ld- "yep, I myself find antivirus programs to be the biggest viruses ever."
I think a (virus)worm got into lord leo immune body system and made him say that
respect to the repliers! Thank you all!
But we still haven’t found a solution here . . .
Anyone?!

2 hard disks. One with OS and programs and the second hard disk with samples and projects (no executable files!) The first HD should be backed up with Ghost. Everytime you suspect that there is a virus, just re-install the system from the Ghost.

Most of the viruses, trojans and worms usually are made to open backdoors on your system, so technically if you don't have the net installed on your machine, most of those viruses will be dormant.
although there are some viruses that could possibly chew up the whole registery on your system or delete dll files, boot files whatever, so AV is needed indeed. no one wants to take chances when it comes down to the safety of work-files.
but just like it was mentioned above, AV can be very taxing on CPU, RAM. and unless you have plenty of those to go around, i wouldn't recommend installing the AV on the same machine.
Pavels idea about second hard drive is also great, although i'd add lil' bit of something:
2 hard drives with 2 OS installed - one for music production and second for the misc stuff: games, internet, AV etc. etc. This way you can keep the cpu/ram load to minimum when making some tunes.
P.S. I could fedex you the cable, but i rather wire you the actual cost of the cable ($5) how about that?
