hi all..

iv been producing for few years now and i am still trying to achieve the sound im looking for..the artists plague, but could anybody enlighten me as to whether there are any local platforms around Cape Town for apiring artists who progress every day but have no idea how to take their music to the next level..rather vague i know but i guess im asking where i can hook up with other up and coming producers and perhaps get sum constructive criticism from the masters?

Stick around...make friends....contacts.

Its helps to move in these circles....speak to them at parties....etc.

Its the only way...trust me.           Being wicked is AAIIT!

best thing to do sensision, is keep with the times, if a new program comes out for sound, buy it, play with it, learn it, send it .

eg. cubase sx 3 p

because you will basically be using the latest shit, and keeping on top of the scene the whole time...

I dont think software is the key... just carry on doing what you do... dont let the scene dictate....

You don;t think software is the key??

Please tell us why?

I don't think so. Maybe being in the IT profession...i am biased. But think about it....would you rather use 50 VSTi's, or have one synth?

Then again you are more into the progressive style innit?

mmm....i think i know why you say you believe in hardware....is that to say u don;t use software?

OR that u won;t use it exclusively?           Being wicked is AAIIT!

Not that I am a musician but getting the latest tools doesnt mean good tunes at all. It's about determination, talent, innovativenesss, persistence, love, obviously a little help from friends goes a long way.

Me too I am in the IT business way too long - nothing wrong with Fruity Loops what even Tracker is wikked

sure......its not what you use to get to your final product,.....its the final PRODUCT!

However.....to keep up with the trend and style....and quality of trance at the moment....u will need to know what software will be the trick the best....and there are a few!

I would not recommend using ACID to make a a final track....but its possible.           Being wicked is AAIIT!

yeah...

software definitely isn't the key to producing quality music.

although... having the latest software does help newer folks grasp the concepts of midi and sequencing.

Let's face it..... All the software packages are exactly the same.... they all do the same thing... they just look slightly different.

music is music at the end of the day.

Pioneer is just better!           Being wicked is AAIIT!

use cubase sx (2.2 or 3) if on pc,,, or logic 6 or pro-tools (only for mac),,, they are the same thing basically

dont use anythng else or ur wating your time,,, you may be able to write music in other programs,, but the end result will always be inferior to these,,, trust me i've tried them all

hardware such as soundcard, pc, and monitors,,, is the most important thing to have right after that,,, dont skimp here....

most new software synths are as good and easir to use that hardware and u can get so much of it for free these days,,, having said that however i would say that any decent studio should haveat least one peice of good hardware synth,, (roland, nord, access, etc),, and obviouslu the more the better

that doesnt mean however if u have all the equipment that ur gonna make good music,,, some of thebest music i know is made on a laptop and cubase with no hardware appart from a good soundcard and speakers... or even created soley on programs like fruity loops and reason,,, (but they always sound much better when used in conjunction with logic or cubase for production purposes)

but back to the original topic here... if u need help getting to the next level,,, the best person to help you is yourself... now i know that sounds stupid but it worked for poeple like me, artifakt, and damage... but also dont be shy to work with others,,, both of your own calibre or better,, you may even learn tricks from guys who have produced much less,, so go out and as sarasin says,, speak to people and meet up,,, actually make a plam to sit with someone elese,,, anyone really who's as keen as u... it will definateley help... otherwise ,, do like i did and and study your favourite music and make as many tunes as possible,, dont sit one one for too lng,,, get over it,, your not gonna sell it,, so make another one and learn the process better,,, everytime gets easier....
