A simpler way to add complexity is to make it sound like an unusual time signature by making the bass and rythm section longer or shorter than the 4/4. It is often used in metal, listen to some Messuggah and you will understand the idea.
Otherwise Shpongle is the only thing that comes to mind, but they are not exactly archetypal "trance" either.

cool man, i think metal and psy have alot mre in common than most think,
what do you mean though, cutting a bar of 4/4 short? like a bar 0f 3/4 then.?, or in half?

Count the beats as you listen to it you will realize it is basic 4/4 even though it sounds odd. You can do alot with 4/4 to make it sound unusual or odd.

It's pretty simple idea, if you made a bar that is repeating, loop it for example not for one bar, but one bar and two bits. It creates fun groove and some dynamic feel.
But nothing to do with time signature. I really want to know how to do that, from technical point of view, how the hell you do it?

ill give this a try and see! cheers.
on changing time signatures and BPMs i only know how to change it in ableton,
in arrangement view: add a locator on the timeline (little arrow) and type in the timing you want.
session view: rename the chosen master clip to the tempo/timing you want

another tip; similar to what jekvan said about extending phrases so they last more than a bar:
cut your loop up so that it starts at a differebt point from last time. for example with a bassline- say it plays standard 1-2-3-4. at the end of a break switch it around so it plays 2-3-4-1 or 3-4-1-2(or whatever).
still the same thing but gives it a fresher flavour:)

progressive rock is full of non-traditional time signatures, dream theater, tool, umphrey's mcgee, etc
as far as psy, shpongle has some of this kind of thing. this tune in 7/8 or alternating measures of 4/4 and 3/4 depending on how you count it.
