Anybody have any of these...

Instead of stressing about how to get ur tracks mastered as good as other artists... how about trying to hear how these artists tracks sound pre-mastered...

I would sure as hell benefit from listening to tracks in this state, so i can see what i need to work on...

Am i making sense or does anyone else feel the same?

Do any of u pro's care to share some loops with pre mastered tracks... perhaps some from last year?

Thx Isratrancers.

Ahoy Martin.

Got the same interest in the topic a while ago and got to listen to some of the south african artists unmastered tracks. Surprisingly not very different! Sure it's softer and is a little "uncrisp" but otherwise it's pretty much the same.

Got to speak with a couple of them and they all say the same thing: "Try to get it to sound as close to master as possible". It all depends on the song, as long as you have headroom all you maybe need to do is run it through an L2 after compressing a little or expanding the stereo image or whatever.

The less you do, the better. Or so I've heard. I know you can over-process/master and it realy sounds shit, Like the speakers are trying to push out a turd and all you have is no dynamic range at all, staying between -3 and 0 dbu constantly. That doesnt sound tight at all, but people do it anyway ... the louder the better they say.

Do whatever sounds good man. If it sounds good, it is good. Hope this helps a little

Peace, NG

I could be talking out of my ass here, but from what I've understood you should never expect mastering to do anything for your track in terms of making it 'sound better'... just think of it as a simple volume maximizer and if a slight crispness is added, well then that's just a bonus

Sure I wouldn't mind hearing a pro unmastered tune either, but frankly what NeuroGlitch wrote is pretty spot on as to what I expected...

Hey guys... fast posts mean interest

age_of_panic: Welcome aboard.

NeuroGlitch: I heard the same as you. But still, it is this small amount of crisp or " "uncrisp" " that i am interested in. But you are absolutely right from what i understand in terms of making the track sounds as close to the master as possible. Stay good brother and thx for the input. Speakers are trying to push out a turd... Thats a feat in itself. Im trying to get mine to PUSH OUT some money and some whiskey. (Dont even get started with what IM pushin IN there.) lol.

Inner Demon: Lets focus on getting this pro unmastered tune. But yeah NeuroGlitch nailed it.

Cheers...

Keep posting.

Haha! Ya some cash would be nice. I have all this equipment and haven't even started to get money out of it ... or it's value in whiskey. I should probably start charging money for playing at parties ... ? Doh!

Ya that magic 'crisp' is a tricky one, but i'm slowly getting my head wrapped around it.
I go through an extremely tedious, non-creative process half the time i'm producing. Eqing that kickdrum for like an hour, then eq, "quadrify", compress, that bassline, etc it just drains you. But I think the pro's actualy go through with it all, hence the premaster sounds like the master.

I managed to get a close look at an old cubase version of a guy thats beginning to release quite a few tunes here, i think his name is Silbend or something, and thats exactly what I saw. He says to get that mastered sound without actualy mastering it requires shitloads of effort and time, unless your sample library; vsts; whatever are top-notch, which mine arnt.

The artists (pro) are very cagey about their unmastered tunes here, and they have every right to be i suppose. bastards.

NeuroGlitch nailed it pretty good. Keep your master clean, and mix your track the best you can. Mastering shouldn't be considered a tool for cleaning up a track, do that in your mix.

Good luck           ________________________
