I came back yesterday from the party.. Had some very nice time there..

First about music... What rocked:
Minilogue (OMG!!! amazing)
james monro
Tati
Felzener
Son Kite
oxyd

these were the top progressive acts.. Minilogue was for sure the best in the party.. What a fat sound.. too bad it was just a little over an hour..

and in the chill out:
ooze
seb (dj set)

(and a few others I dont remember)

now about the party and organization:

The soundsystem was pretty good..
the deco in the chill out was nice, but nothing special.. in the dancefloor, I thought it wasnt very nice deco (no psychedelic backdrops, just some big spiky things, like in voov, which is not really psychedelic imo)..

The organization was pretty careful to have people cleaning the festival area constantly, and the bathrooms, which was pretty nice..

They put shadows around, but we need MORE!! I mean, the sun is so fuking hot there, shadows are never enough.. please much more shadows for next year..

There was quite a bit of food options, but it was all expensive...

the worst thing of ALL was the water.. The drinking 500ml water bottle was 2 reais each, which is really expensive for brazil, and you could not buy bigger bottles or anything.. That is a pretty bad move.. I want to stress on this point because it is really important.. People get sick because they dont drink enough water (too expensive), with all that heat on our heads.. PLEASE do something about it next year (selling 1,5 and 5 liter bottles for a relatively cheaper price is THE solution)...

Appart from that, another thing that should be changed is taking out these big (holofote) lights that were lighting the beach and the way to the dancefloor.. Those lights make it hard to see the way, they are annoying to the eyes (and they for sure take a lot of energy).. The obvious solution would be to put small lights hanging in the lines of the coconut trees, easy to set up and not annoying.. plus you can make decos on these small normal lamps..

another sugestion: Sell food tickets near the chill out.. it sucked to have to go all the way to the dancefloor to buy those tickets, when I was thirsty at night...

now, just to notice some good points of the organization: I heard they payed the artists all ok, even some extra.. The ´taking care of trash´ was also pretty nice... Oh and also, making the little booklet with the line up was a great idea, congrats!

and last suggestion.. about the lineup: Please, think a little more of progressive.. the days were like 4 hour progressive, and 20 hours full on.. thats not really fair, specially putting progressive in the peak sun time, making us burn in the sun... make it a little more fair, putting a bit more prog, and also some at night...

a few more points about my personal experience of the party:
I had a lot of fun, and listened to some very nice music, had some intense psychedelic trips in the beach .. and talking about the place, it was a nice place, hot but pretty cool.. Trippy endless lines of coconut trees, beautiful sky and cloud formations.. and not to mention the beautiful huge moon rising in the sea at night.. wow =)

oh yeah, and I met some really nice people, and laughed a looooot and had great fun with my friends

thanks for the party, organizers, I had a lot of fun.. and think about my suggestions for next time =)

and I didnt mention: Lots of really nice looking (and friendly) people... =)

for sure, canyouhearthegoblins, there was nothing too bad.. just small points that can get improved.. The party was awesome, totally worth it, great fun!

How to get there? Well I got a bus straight from Rio (where I live) to the party, 26 hours... the closest option would be to take a flight to Salvador, in Bahia, and from there take the rented bus (information and phone number is always on the festival´s webpage) to the party, about 5 hours...

I recommend for you to come, but to stay a few extra days in Brazil after or before the party...

After a tirp trouhg:Bus,Plane,Ferryboat, vans and motorcycle we get there...I enjoy it quite a lot,the only ¨problem¨ was the unbearable heat that it makes me cancel the psyball championship.
God is hot there!!!
PS:Hi Georgie,If you think that Spain is hot...check Bahia mate!!!

well I'm back in town and now have time to do a proper review so here goes:

The venue for this magical experience is a little tiny fishermans village known as praia (beach) pratigi. It is as perfect a place for such a gathering as you could possibly imagine. The beach stretches for as far as the eye can see and is lined with coconut palms. When the sun is shining which it was almost 90% of our time there the colours are truly sensational.
We stayed about 3km from the party near the main access road to the party at a little pousada which meant either a decent walk into the party everyday or a ride on the back of a big truck which wasnt always the safest option. None of the party goers could take their cars beyond that point so it was a big car park area, busses, restaurant etc

Anyway we arrived about 7pm on the 29th and went down to the party area to see how it all looked. Unfortunately it was night time so we couldnt see all that much but i bumped into this guy i met from last year who kindly shouted me and jase some of brasils finest(thanks vlad!!) The set up looked cool but nothing special and i said to jase just wait till you see it in the morning. We had a listen to aerophobia form holland who didnt do all that much for me so we just played around, settled in and had a few drinks. This was very much a night to simply soak it up.

The 30th 10am - after a good and much needed sleep it was time to head down to the party and see what was cookin in the hot brasilian sun. We walked down to the site on the beach in high anticipation of what we are about to see.
It didnt dissappoint. Huge coloured banners tied between the palm trees. Huge stars. about 75k of sound supported by a massive scaffold. a feast for the eyes and the ears!!!
The back of the dancefloor meets the sand and then a short 20m walk accross the boiling sand and you are in heavenly ocean. Nice little waves to keep you afloat which made for much fun when a little balls!!!
I took some paper with me from melbourne so we ate some of that for breakfast and let the day unfold. Musically early on nothing really impressed that much. By early arvo a brasilian prog act called Oxyd came on. Wow!!! some really nice and fat tunes, really sounded sweet on the big system and kept me grooving the whole way. For me this was one of the better sets of the party.
After Oxyd another swim and then we hung around to hear Livia vs Dahan - well livia last year opened the party and played a great set and dahan played one of the better afternoon sets last year so i was quite keen to hear this. Unfortunately it wasnt quite what i was expecting...good but not great. That was the end of our day as Universoparallelo is definitely about the day time!!!
The 31st - 9am - slowly out of bed to jump on the back of a truck and get a ride into the party.
11am Ecliptic - a new act from mexico, 2 guys about to release a few tracks on compilations and hoping to have an album out by mid next year on maia records. Their set was quite interesting - they have certainly developed their own sound but to hear a full set of it got a little much. Some of their tracks and their sound creation is really different and sounded great but it got a bit repitetive by the end.
Next up was dick trevor from green nuns fame... his dj set ok but nothing special - he played pretty similar stuff to everyone else - nothing to exciting and his mixing was pretty ordinary really.
Psypilot was meant to be up next but missed his flight and was to be rescheduled for another day so L'elf, the man behind turbo trance records jumped ahead in the time slots. He played a solid set with some secret monster tracks, his mixing was very impressive and he pretty much delivered to the crowd what they wanted.
Now next - deep breath - MINILOGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!wow!!
what a fucking hour or so of my life - they played the sunset set to close out 2004 and boy did they do it in style. It was quite simply one of the most incedible experiences i have had at any party. Every person on the dancelfoor was into it - smiling faces everywhere just groooving to their magical sounds....the system sounded crisp and clean and they just played with everyone. a true musical treat that afterwards made everything else sound insignificant. they played a remix of michael jackson - billie jean which some of you may have heard which left me and jase lost for words. Puts a huge smile on my face just thinking about that set - worth the travel just for that. No. 1 set of the party (maybe equal with....)

End 2004 - back to the pousada for a meal and to lie down and all of a sudden its 5am on the 1st. Yep slept through new years which apparently was quite spectacular - yep dickhead but not gonna cry over it now.

Arrived at the dancefloor about 6am for the first stone - a project of swarup, one of the organisers of the festival and the man behind burn in noise. Rock and roll trance old school style - Ozzy you would have loved it. some riffs from some classic rock and roll tracks, some really nice basslines but not really my style. Next Dimitri - i have now heard him play 4 or 5 times and this was probably amongst the bottom. Good mixing but nothing genious like i have heard in the past. Solid tracks, also with a few secret weapons, hopefully he play like he did at warbuton all those years ago when he is here for rainbow serpent!!

It is probably a good time to say that my trance days are numbered and the music has been less than inspiring lately. I will always love the music but that undeniable passion has unfortunately wavered. Most of the full on acts sound pretty much the same and it was unfortunate that this final realisation occured at such a party. i was aware prior to this festival that my days were numbered and hoped to just enjoy it all for a second last time (rainbow last). So when i say that most of the remaining full acts didnt do it for me just know that i am a jaded old fuck.

anyway back to the party
Next Bamboo forest - quite messy full on - a bit boring and a bnit messy at times - they didnt seem to have good control of the system either. Didnt really get into any of the music for the rest of that day so just swam and ate and took it relatively easy.
I also knew that i was playing at 4am the next morning so i wanted to be in decent shape after last year playing a pretty messy set after having a massive new years day.
so an early night and ealr rise at about 1am to the pouring rain....great!!
Got our shit together and then had to sit and wait for a truck...waiting waiting trying to get the security guys/drivers to take us down to the party...waiting..waiting..raining..waiting!!
2:15 - Should we walk on the beach?? waiting..finally someone ready to give us a lift. now the track is about 4.5km of sand road bumpy as anything and deteriorating by the day. anyway we jumped in the front, me, jase and our 2 escorts, about 1km down the road our driver decides to take the bend a little quickly, hearts in our mouths as we do a lovely 270 degree turn hoping like hell we dont smack into a tree. Luckily we didnt but unfortunately the truck stalled and didnt want to fire back up again. After 5 mins it did and we were back on track - happily but still hoping that he didnt decide to do a repeat performance. We arrive safely at about 3am and walked down the 1km of camping amongst the palm trees centimetres from the sand.
It was pretty quiet around and the rain still trickled. We got to the dancefloor and sadly 4950 people (out of 5000) decided it was a good time for a sleep.
Had a few scotches and got ready to play to the 'huge crowd'. I ended up playing a pretty tight 2hr set to a magnificent sunrise but sadly only a limited number of people enjoyed it. ahwell shit happens - i still managed to have fun up there playing tunes through 75k!!

After me was a brasilian 3 piece live act- Yage, one of which was a live vocalist...some interesting sounds but they seemed to get a little lost sometimes.

7am Mack - the best of the brasilian dj's and part of brain xl with gabe from wrecked machines and also one of the men behind the zigzag label. He is privy to some new sub 6, pixel, wrecked machines, domestic so suffice to say his tunes were pretty good but still the lingering thought existed that so much of it sounds pretty similar.

Triptych LIVE - one of the top live acts for me - charles manages to keep to the full on lines but not the same formula. his breaks are great and he doesnt have the standard build ups. his tracks peak but through progression not a 45 sec break and a drum roll. really nice and grooovy stuff that really took adavntage of the bug system.

Pedrao - another brasilian dj - belted it out, all the big tunes...good mixing...but same old same old whether it was released or not.

12:30 SON KITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Equal best set of the party. My god words cant even begin to describe. The vibe that they created was unbelievable. 4000 people just in heaven. They took your ears and brain and just played with them, toyed with, tweaked them, pulled them one way then the other. it was the work of musical freaks!!! never have i seen such a scene at a party - i truly cant express it enough how incredible this set of music was. it made everything else sound like garbage. These guys are the masters and it is necessary for eveyone to see the 2 of them play together and work of eachother and the energy of the crowd. You will be a changed music listener forever after hearing one of their true Live sets!!!!
UNFUCKINGREAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After them came tristan live but really my ears were done for the day!

the 3rd - the final day!!
arrived aroud 6am in anticiaption of wrecked machines live... he ended up swapping with JP from TIP world. same old same old - uninspiring music.
about 9am brought wrecked machines - huge sound on that system, some good new stuff but full on is full on!!!
Next up was meant to be protoculture but he hadnt yet arrived - some troubles in mexico. So Tristan played his dj set early and played a very weird variety of tracks from some new pixel, to old GMS - Overdose, some other oldies including silicon sound - jaguar, and some newere belting tunes. i didnt like it so much and his mixing was a little off at times.

Then Altom - like the last album a minute here and a minute there is great but the mess in between just doesnt impress. didnt listen to all of it coz it just wasnt doing nice things for me.

Then Shove - mexican dj - top mixing, some of the best of the party but pretty similar bag of tunes to lots of the others. again good but not too excting.

At this time still no sign of protoculture and me and jase had pretty much had enough.

Silver surfers were playing at 5 so we said we will listen to them (well half of without nate) and then retire. Some good new stuff from them - deeper than the proto stuff and not as standard full on - quite nice stuff but by then enough was enough - the head can only handle so much. so with a track or 2 to go we headed away from the party 1 last time.

The next day we found out that nate had arrive simultaneously to our departure and played a great live set and then played Vs with swarup to finish the party - furious that we missed it - but we get to see you soon at rainbow hey Nate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So to finish up because thats as much thinking and typing as i have done since i left australia:
The highlights: Minilogue and Son Kite by so faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar!!

To the organisers: What an effort!!!!
well done guys - massive congratulations, the place looked incredible, the sound was fanfuckingtastic, the stalls were great, the line-up was enormous, you didnt forget about anything, a real wprld class event than i am sure will continue to grow in the future!!!!!

Well done to all involved and i hope i see you for a third time next year!!!

p.s. i am sure there are things i havent covered but i tried my best!!!
