okay
lets get things more practice

if i turn on one sawtoth on the note A3 ( 440 h) and turn on the unison... i would get some others sawtoth waves slightly detuned from A... like get also a G#3 G3 etc etc... without changing their pitch ? and thats why it also gets a feeling of a kind of noise wav going on ?( maybe im wrong but everytime i turn on unison without knownin why, i feel like a WHITE NOISE has turned on ....)

mmm, kind of.

firstly, the osc wouldn't change by so much as a semitone - more like half a semitone, max, and obviously, this is a change in pitch in realt terms, but not in the note played on the keyboard.

I'm a little confused about what you mean when you say "without changing their pitch" - could you elaborate on what you mean there, in case I have misunderstood?

The more voices you use, the more harmonics are introduced, so perhaps this is the noisyness you are hearing.           .

The "noise" you hear is definitely because of the more complex high freq content you get when stacking detuned osc's.

faxinatu>> I still disagree. You are talking about an fx that duplicates an incomming signal like the sound of one single osc. By your definition chorus is unison to.
Unison is just layered osc's.

ow i meant ... the extra saw waves that come in when u turn on the UNISON is detuned in relation of the MAIN wave but they wont change their pitch...they will stay static detuned in relation of the main wav.

hmm nice

so lets pretend we dont have an UNISON button in the sinth but it has 4 oscilators which u can control the pitch from each one separatly.

so i turn on a saw or pulse or whatever waves in each from hte oscilators

and i slightly change the pitch from the second/3rd and forth osc down or up.

i would get that UNISON effect ?

yes.

Try and make an equal division of pitches, if that makes sense, so 1 osc at 0.00 of the pitch, one at 0.2, one at 0.4 one at      -0.2, one a -0.4 if you see what I mean, although its entirely optional.

hmmm... so the unison effect doesnt seem to be so important as i see people sayin around there...

important in the meanin of bein ESSENCIAL to make some fat leads

and in my opinion i think its something very common to do without knowin u re doin it. u know ?

if u have 3 oscilators with the same wav... its automatic that u are going to make some changes on hte pitch to make the sound more BRIGHT ....

well not so obviouly maybe it depents of how each one work with the designin of the sounds but it sjust like most from the FX where u can archive the same result only tweakin some right stuffs from the sinth.

I very rarely use unison, things normally fit into the mix a lot better without it, and sound better in isolation too.

It is totally non essential in the making of fat leads. Much more important is the nature of the filter IMO.

I'm having a lot of fun with pitchshifters (non delay based ones) for fattening things up like chorus or flanging without the unwanted artefacts.

Also pay attention to synths where you can control the phase of the oscillator - this is very important too - especially ones where you can sync the phase of the oscillator to the midi note gate.          .
