Hey guys,
as I posted in the other section Union Jack is doing a remix competition for Red Herring, and I decided to have a try at it. This here is my first draft of kinda of a deep-trance version, it lays out the basic structure of the song, however it is still missing any percussion other than basic snare and HH and some kinda darker driving riff, methinks.
Anyhow, i have a case of serious loopitis after listening to and working on this all weekend long, and would appreciate any feedback that I can incorporate, particularly mixing, eq`ing, layering, panning.

Alright, I spent another evening on it with fresh ears after 2 days rest and added some percussion, a few sounds here and there and IMHO cleaned up the low end . I say IMHO because in my room I have really bad bass response and can`t really tell. Therefore critical feedback on that issue or anything else is really appreciated
nice overall sound and elements. cool and well picked kick/bass combo for that tracks..
nice and clean sound (at lest on my headphones)..
but it has its lengths, try to condense the matter more, bring the snare after break at 1:41.. and not later.. always keep the listeners busy. try to put some modulated sound that keeps changing on and on.. play with the originanl melodies bring them in and out.. bring some more vocals oder chop ups of the vocals.. maybe some decent 303 riffs here and there..
but you have a good place to start off!! keep up the good work http://www.ektoplazm.com/free-music/stereofeld-frequenzwechsel "I've always been a believer in musical repetition to draw in the listener and make the music hypnotic. Another thing I believe in is repetition." Alan Parsons
nice track. it has good flow and is definitely hypnotic much like recent union jack output. sounds are also good, but i'll agree with klippel that a 303 riff at the right place could work wonders. also a bit more percussion wouldn't be bad.
to me the original vocal samples sound a bit out of place (maybe because you only use them once or twice). the low end sounds a bit boomy on my system but that could just be my listening environment.
overall: very nice. if it were finished it'd land with a 4/5* rating in my trance playlist in fact your entry does discourage me from trying my luck with an own red herring remix a bit...

Nice but the truth ... Sound very far and old , Try bring more sounds in cause all are very boring by now and i think need lots of work to fill it up and bring it be 2011 . I miss Bass here , Somthing to hug and hold and glue the all track together because all sound now (Imo) Realy scattered , Sounds here and there but nothing down there (And also up) to complete the all story (If you know what i mean) . can agree with the other two gentlemans here that all can be much more dynamic and interesting .
Keep it up ..

Hey guys,
thanks for the feedback, I very much appreciate it!
@ klippel: You are right, it still is very long, it is only a rough draft and this is thefirst outline of the track, there will be more to come. Some 303`s are definitely a good idea to add some spice, particularly given the nature of the original.
@padmapani: It is supposed to be hypnotic, and like mentioned above 303`s definitely won`t hurt. Can you give any further tips how to make the bass less boomy, my room sucks for listening to bass, its a fucking echochamber...
That being said, I am more than flattéred at your overall rating, but make your own remix, a classic like Red Herring can never have enough remixes!
@Cardinals Cartel: I WANT to sound old, I`m an old geezer and I have no intention whatsoever to sound like 2011. However, you are certainly right about the dynamic and interesting part, will work on that and report back later!

Well, then you are older than me, but maybe you just stayed younger in the heart, hahaha...

just because there is no annoying fm lead in there or terrible noisemodulations all over the place means you sound "old".. and i really like the clean modern touch you put to the original with oldish sound
thank god there is still some people carrying the oldschool vibe that goa TRANCE brough us (hence the name btw, it was not called goa fullondarkdeathmassacrehardcoretechno as some people like it today)
it was trance that brought us (at least me) all here...

First of all thanks a lot
And then I agree with you, it was trance and tracks like the original of Red Herring that brought me here as well
And I`m a total N00b when it comes to producing, but when I started I set out specifically with the goal in mind to bring the old-school goa/ trance sound aestetic into a more modern format, and with that I don`t mean Neo-Goa, but more something like Goa-House. Because IMHO, nothing beats the types of sounds used in the early phase of goa and trance, the innovation lies in what you do with those sounds. Now I know this track is far from perfect and I still have so much to learn, however the only thing I am happy with is the "sound design" or however you wanna call it, because it is pretty close to where I want it to be. And some people love these types of sounds like I do, and some are sick of them, but that is just the way it is...
- 2:50 the white noiseish synth arepeggio is to "flat" and cheap sounding for the clean and deep sound the track has up to here
- 3:40 the "singing" synth melo that comes in here is really cool, but a tad too loud and it could use some small amount of modulation (cutoff) to make it "speak" a little bit more and keep it interesting
- 5:40 there is two new sounds. one that plays the same melody as the pipin melo is defo too cheesy for this cool track..try to make it less supersaw trancey sounding and tweak it into acidish direction a bit more
so much for criticism, other than that i really dig that tune and i can see it being a really really good one in the end. big step forward to the last version and again nice and worthy interpretation!!

I really like this one , just agree with Cardinal's on one thing, i'm still trying to do it also, and this is my view of what he said when talking about glueing things, for example at some points in the song you have a 3 notes stab question followed by another chord answering, there's a silence between the question and response, dunno if im explaining myself right, i really dunno how they glue it all together but that's my 2 cents, other then that it's an amzing track and i love the whole felling
