Starting this topic to share some uncommon automation ideas you've come up with or have heard and want to use.
Increasing the dry/wet amount of reverb on a clap or snare for the last few hits before a new phrase. I haven't used this one, but heard it recently in a track and it sounded nice/added to the build to a new phrase. The instance I heard, the dry/wet was probably brought all the way up to 100% so it sounded like the hits were in a very large room.

hmm lets see.. use 4 different send aux one with short reverb one with long reverb one with fast delay and other with long delay and just send every few notes to another aux channel.. makes it sounds really 'detialed' work but really u can record this with 4 knobs in a minute
automate the gate treshold of drum loop (c1 or that type not trance-gate)
so it comes from the top down , and there is more and more sounds coming in as the gate tresh goes down. its one of the best best ways to make 'start' or 'build' for your percussive parts.www.sattelbattle.com http://yoavweinberg.weebly.com/
maybe those are kinda popular but i wanted to contribute

automate the volume of the bass to the beat of the kick instead of using a sidechain, in cubase... not FL cause its easy to do it with peak controller there...
but thats not uncommon.. what would be uncommon would be to automate the sends in random order to a sound... just go whack

Cool if this works for you but I wouldn't do it personally; even in C5 automation is not sample-accurate - the accuracy depends on your buffer size.
automating attack and decay times on filter envelopes- something i got in to recently on some dubstep stuff, though there are other ways of getting that sound (ie cutting between different copies of a similar patch to build up a loop that way).
colin mentioned automating volume when you sweep up an effect- i like the sound of that on a sound that im putting high or band pass filter sweeps on that have a touch of resonance, maybe slowly change the filter cutoff, and adjust the volume to keep it consistent (gets a nice feeling of morphing the frequency range of the sound)

If you have velocity sensitive drum pads, instead of using them for sample triggering, assign them through MIDI to different parameters or patch bay source CC's on your synth or VST in different combinations. Play around with the buttons while your MIDI loop is running and record.

Automate pitch, automate the automation parameter and then automate that with a nice lfo...
very interesting, can you explain this better?
What i m doing right now is, i have two leads with playing the same midi, I automate the cutoff of both leds, so when one cutoff is low the other will be high, and then so
or i just automate the cutoff of one synth to open just at the end of the line, while the other synth play the same line. I like the effect so far...still experimenting.

ok, my 0.01:
put a stereoexpander on master channel and automate the stereowidth in breaks. sounds nice
do u mind post a sample of it?

track "wasteful science", from 0.49 to 1.05 this effect is applied a couple of times, and in track "blind story" around 0.50 also. you can hear the stereowidth changing.

In Ableton to you can create 'unlinked envelopes' for automating parameters, but set them to odd, arbitrary timelengths, creating some really funky effects.
Here's a tutorial:

Something from the track I'm working on now: atmospheric chord stabs with tube distortion... over the course of 32 bars I'm automating the fader and the tube distortion's input, output and drive levels to give a smooth progression from clean to fat and grungy whilst keeping the level consistent.
Hey! I didnt know that... so it can get out of sync sort of? How is that working out for you? i use to automate vocals and sometimes live bass and i havent noticed any faults, not what i can think of right now.. but i guess thats up to listening correctly!
