Hey...

What´s the real difference??? Is it the same playing live with balanced soundcard as with unbalanced one plugged to a direct box???           LOADING...

With balanced outputs you can use longer cables and you have less problems with interferences. But only if the input of the next device is also balanced.

the longer the cable, the weaker the signal. Balanced cables don't have that problem. And they are better shielded. But indeed, your input and output need to be balanced.

Basically a balanced cable carries two copies of the same signal which makes it possible at the input end to remove any interference that been introduced by phase inverting.

If you want to use it for playing live it will be better for connection to a proper mixer, but to go in to a DJ mixer you need special cables.
Also normally an output with balanced connectors will usually have a +4 dBu signal strength while I think most DJ mixers only have -10 dBv inputs as equipement with phono connectors normally also use the lower voltage.
To overload the input of the mixer will not give you the clearest signal, so in that case you might get better sound with a lower end soundcard with unbalanced -10 dBv outputs.
Proper mixers on the other hand usually have switches to accomodate for both standards.

Its called common mode rejection. What ever intereference the +ve line picks up, the 180 degrees out of phase -ve line, equally picks up as well. So at the terminal they cancel each other out.           Me>You

Unbalanced:
Unbalanced connections are more susceptible to interference, hum, and crosstalk, unbalanced cable, connectors, and equipment is cheaper, and common in consumer audio, unbalanced cable has one wire with a shield around it, unbalanced connectors have just two pins, signal and ground.
Example: Phone(1/4 inch and mini), and RCA Phono Plug

Balanced a.k.a Asymetrical:
2 signal carriers + 1 earth = 3 pin XLR connectors are mainly used for balanced audio signals. Using a balanced signal reduces the risk of inference.
· Pin 1 is the earth (or shield)
· Pin 2 is the +ve (or 'hot')
· Pin 3 is the -ve (or 'cold).
For long connections balancing is essential.
A balanced input can only detect differences between hot and cold signal carries and will reject anything the 2 have in common. This is achieved by using transistors or op-amps or transformers

The ability of a balanced input to reject interference is specified as it’s Common Mode Rejection Ratio (CMRR)

NOTE: Cable shielding is effective up to +/- 4 meters of cable length

By the way SMS I love ur music

Thanks for the answers! I´ve cleared all my doubts about this issue!

I just made a 3 meters cable... with unbalanced o/i...

Thanks for the words Liquid Vision. I hope u will like my next releases!           LOADING...
