I was interested to discover recently that (The Blessed) OTT has also produced under the name Umberloid with a bass-playing buddy. I then went on a bit of a mission to find some Umberloid tracks but so far have only found one, from the 13th Moon compilation, called 'Neon Tetra'.
And I just have to say what a find! It's an absolute killer track - really upbeat, yet at the same time it's both melancholy and floaty (classic OTT, if there is such a thing), with funky breakdowns, beautiful gates and nice squidging, gorgeous bass that hits you square in the solar plexus....and of course, my favourite, those panoramic pads of his which never fail to expand my brain and fly it to nebulous lands.
Think I'm going to use it when I do the music for my dance group in a couple of weeks time, play it to the hippies as they all loved 'Splitting An Atom'!!
Ok Ok, enough of the hero-worship.....what I really want to know is if anyone is aware of other Umberloid tracks awaiting my discovery besides this one or if there are plans to make more.
Also, I'm aware he records under the pseudonym Gargoyles (with SiPo) but again if anyone has knowledge of other collaborations I'd be really grateful to hear of them.
Peace and Love 3;~

You mean like Hikkomori (Ott admit it already..) ? Well anyways a little bird whispered that we might indeed see an Umberloid album in the (probably very distant) future..

Notice I didn't say with 100% certainty that it's Ott. I'm just waiting for him to admit it..

Who was the little bird??? Can I have its name address and phone number so I can confirm the rumour?
And really....Hikimori? I really like that 'Black Ops' track on the US2 album but it doesn't sound like OTT to me at all. It's just not emotional and heartfelt enough and if there's one thing I love about OTT (and what separates him from many other great producers) it's the fact that even his more upbeat tracks have a certain 'soul' about them. The Umberloid track - I mean it just takes you away on an emotional journey, especially those pads at the start. They sound like feelings! You can almost hear the guy has had his heart broken. The 'Gamma Goblins' and 'LSD' remixes even. I don't know. Maybe I'm wrong. I just don't find 'Black Ops' very soulful, even though it's a great psy track in its own right. |

Ott said it himself. Well it's not like he said that we get to cut of his right hand if this doesn't happen..
He also said that Neon Tetra is his favourite tune from himself..

Well if The Blessed confirmed it then I stand corrected, though I don't mind admitting that I'm really surprised.
And to be honest, I've had 'Neon' for less than a week but literally haven't had it out of my stereo the whole time. It's an absolutely phenomenal track, and while I have been known to be a little obsessive sometimes, it's very rare that I'll listen to a single recording for hours and hours (amounting to days now!!) as I have done with this one. Oh the nerdity.....but in my defence it's those pads....they get to me every time, like looking at pictures from the Hubble....sonic nebulas....
I don't know how he does it. And I have no doubt it's one of his favourites.
I'm actually startng to worry about the fact that I volunteered to provide the music (80 minutes worth) for my hippy dancers a week Wednesday because I just can't bring myself to listen to anything else.
Anyway, thanks for the information. Much appreciated.
As for that repeat button...... |

Exit Chapel Perilous was supposed to be released on LSD a good while back. I don't know what's gonna happen with it, but Chris told me he'd almost given up on it ever seeing the light of day.
It would sure be a shame if it never got released, cos it's a smashing tune indeed |

Glad you like the track, floaty. Of the tracks I've been involved with, it also happens to be my favourite.
I'm working on more stuff as we speak, although whether Ott will ever help me finish any more Umberloid tracks is something I don't know at this time.
This makes me very sad... but that's when I churn out the most interesting chord sequences... which then makes me very happy indeed.
Isn't music great like that? |
