I read somewhere (from a study done) that 144BPM is an universal proven standard to achieve an altered state of conscience.

Maybe some of you who DJs can give me insight. In your humble opinion;
What tempo makes people move on the dance floor?
What tempo is good for deep trance induction?

I know there is no absolute answer but those with DJ experience must have made an observation about which BPMs hits the spot.

I've been doing 150, 160 lately. And ever since, all my 145 songs sound really slow. 100 for chill always works for me.

Depends on the track..I never decide on the exact BPM until the track is totally done, even if it means bouncing all the midi tracks again.           You believe in the users?
Yeah, sure. If I don't have a user, then who wrote me?

i dont think tempo has much to do with the trance inducing effect. You can have trance inducing techno around 110 and trance inducing drum n bass around 170.

trance induction is by the 1/16th (or steady variant) beat in constant continuum. the bpm only affects how fast / slow you attain the state.

I don't follow you here. Are you saying that a high bpm would induce a state of trance faster than a slow bpm? What on earth do you base that on?

Besides I think there's much more to it than a repeating 16th beat. I can only speak for myself but the perceived depth of a tune is just as important to me - I have trouble attaining a state of trance with music that is faster than say 155 bpm. Since every note has such little time to develop a tone I find that really fast tracks lose depth. So I definitely think the tempo is part of the equation.

However, I'd say there is a direct relation to the amount of drugs taken and how fast/slow you attain the state

Hello,

This reminded me of something I heard a while back, has anybody ever heard psytrance where every tune starts off at about 145bpm, then after the break-down in the middle of the tune, it drops at perhaps 160-170bpm with an offbeat 8th note bassline, before eventually slowing back down to the original tempo? Somebody I met a while back was playing a mix CD by somebody called "fine ryan"/"fine rine"(something like that, didn't catch the spelling), it was easily the sickest psytrance I've ever heard. I've not been able to find anything like it since. Does anybody know what I'm talking about?

I think tempo changing in a track is quite old technique eventhough there are not that much of it.I heard a psycedelic tune by Mubali where its often was changed, but am not the title-in-memory man.Never heard of Fine Rhyne.

I've heard a few tunes that do it, but I agree it's not common. This CD was hot, I listen to new stuff all the time, and it's still burned into my memory even though it's been over a year since I heard it. It was an entire 60+ minute mix CD that went like:

145bpm with psy bassline...Breakdown....170bpm drop with offbeat bassline....change back to 145bpm... mix to next track... repeat....

The consistency of every single tune being like this lead me to believe that this is some secret sub-genre of psytrance that I am not yet cool enough to be let in on

But to the OP, the above arrangement is in fact the ultimate trance inducing tempo(s).

156 bpm is my favourite
under 156 is not enough strong and apocaliptic, it becomes boring to me, and over 156 is becoming very agressive and is hard for me to get in to the beat easy.
so i guess my brain work the best on 156
also i've made my best track on that bpm, but that doesnt mean that i dont like some tracks on 100 bpm or some on 200 bpm           VA - Spiritual Science out now!

i think its more about repeating sounds and dancing... tempo can be whatever....
I think that most important its a spiritual belief!

I think its a missing link in this music many times...
sometimes it would be more easy to just bang on a drum instead of playing a psytrance track to get into trance.... electronical trance music has somekind of amusment about it more than a will to make people trance out....

Also the Dj and Artist has a major role in this, a good trance inducing set is not that easy to achieve...

just some thoughts

thx for all input.

I was at this festival relaxing on a sling-mat/hang-mat swinging back and forward on the tempo spacing out (somewhere above 150bpm). I dont think the tempo changed the whole night with different DJ performances. Maybe intentional. Got me thinking.
(do heavier people perceive time more intensely?) - kidding

I played a tune of mine to my friends in 2 different tempos. 138 vs. 145.. 4 out 5 prefer the faster.

it seems those people dancing in the street with needles(or whatever) pierced through all parts of their bodies also like the faster stuff.
