UFS 3 (BNE, Feb 2002)
1. Eat Static - City of Sin 2. Space Cat - Power On 3. Infected Mushroom - Dorefimas 4. Oforia - The Miner 5. BLT - The Calling 6. Dark Soho - Kupa kuchak 7. Hujaboy - Happy Metal 8. Domestic and Cosma - X-port 9. Violet Vision - Honey
The UFS series have always displayed the evolving Israeli trance scene. After a long wait we have the third volume, compiled by none other than Hommega's head honcho, Eyal Yankovich. Lets spriral through this rollercoaster ride of dancefloor hits and party smashers :-
Eat Static, the only international artist on this compilation, opens up with their 'City of Sin', 11 minutes of housey music. I like it, but the conventional trance heads might equate the music to the track name.
Avi Algranati serves up next - he is scheduled to have a new album soon, and 'Power On' is an excellent taster of things to come from this talented artist. Full power from the first few seconds,a moving dancefloor hit with the spirit of Simon Posford hovering inside of it. Listen, dance, and fly!
Infected Musroom follow with 'Dorefimas'. Definately far from their best. I really like parts of the track, but some of the sounds are annoying. This one requires a few listens before comprehending(though its possible you might still miss the point).
The Oforia track follows up with a crazy metallic frenzy like only Ofer could make. 'The Miner' is an absolute scorcher. Dance and have a good time!
BLT joins in the fun with 'The Calling', one of my favourites here. It has this pulsating vibe intertwined with moving sounds to gurantee another sunrise riot from the master of morning trance. Simply magic.
Dark Soho's 'Kupa Kuchak', is very dark stuff from the 3 talented guy - dark and merciless. Get your shovels out and prepare to Dig!
Hujaboy delivers 'Happy Metal' - an enegetic, powerful night track and one of my favourites here. Craters on the dancefloor. Domestic and Cosma is a great collaboration - X-port is a pre dawn tune with powerful basslines layered with soothing passages. Reminds me of the first half of Cosma's album 'Simplicity'. Two thumbs up, simply excellent!
Violet Vision, the amazing freestyle musicians close this amazing CD with a real groovy, sexy, breakbeaty, and airy peice of music. Beautiful work.
Bottomline : DJ Eyal delivers the cream of the crop of the current Israeli scene, a mindblowing mix of the old and new names. A definate must for lovers of powerful, emotional, and complex israeli trance.

This album is one of the best compilations in the Israeli Dance Style (this year)... I was suprised to see Eat Static on this compilation,
Eat Static, Always experimental as usual... give us a nice groovy track to open this CD. Can it get more innovative sounding?
Space Cat, Well... This track sounds very much like the stuff from his old album, more club oriented in my honest opinion. However still a gem.
Infecetd Mushroom, This one has been floating the mafioso for a while now... Somehow Im not too much with this sound of thiers...
Oforia, Ofer gives us a full on track, This one is building up right to the end.
BLT, +Yuli .. More on the subtle side of this compilation... Delivering a very smooth sounding, easy listening track... In contrast to the others.
Dark Soho, Sounding dark and stomping as usual...Do they have to have guitars in all thier tracks?
Hujaboy, This track also sounding more subtle at first, building right to the end... this reminds me very much of Spirillianz in some ways... Great Work.. Keep it on!
Domestic Comsa, Collabaration between Ido and Avihen...Intresting track... One can tell the influences on this track...More liadback than the other tracks...Great Indeed...!
Violet Vision, in thier style they do.. breakbeat, mind candy, killer work of art..
Conclusion : this CD is Great... Go buy it! Highlights : Eat Static, Space Cat, BLT, Hujaboy, Domestic Cosma, Violet Vision!

Just wanted to say, I wish people would be boundless and intelligent like Eat Static, Violet Vision and (in a different way though) BLT, which along are the tracks I enjoyed here most. Some excellent full on, but these 3 are what this album is all about as far as I'm concerned. |

Shortly:
Eat static- great groovy track! and very happy! Space Cat - good one and well built but not original Infected Mushroom- very surprising, welcome to the Classical Mushroom bonus track;) Oforia- another good one and well built but not too original. BLT- good track but i expected more then this. Dark Soho- nothing. Good beginning but fucked up ending again. Sounds like Terra Sancta ver. 2. Hujaboy: liked a lot, but imo smashed up 3 last minutes, this could go harder! Domestic & Cosma- well it's just their pure morning, quality track. Danceable as usual! Violet Vision- great for ending, little different from their usual staff, not so complex if being exact.
to sum up: Very very good cd. Despite my small remarks, all the staff is recommended and extremly danceable! it's a must! |

Very thorough review, ShivaS. And welcome to the magical world of psy-reviewing :-) My 2 cents on this disc are: awesome compilation, great traks, but somehow it didn't get me going. I mean, the story of the compilation. Seems to me that Eyal is getting stuck with formulas (take Israliens 3 and UFS 3): start with funky-clubby music, go on to some full on israeli-style, than put the lights out and go on to dark places, and than finish it up with some refreshing sound, to cool down. Anyway, i loved BLT's track, my big favourite here. Eat Static is very nice too, and tho not exactly my cup of tea, Hujaboy's sound is always innovative and well-built. Cheers! :-) |
