Well i finally got my hands on a UAD1 project pak & was surprised to see how quickly the cpu on the cards max out.

I think i'll probably be getting a UAD1-Flex i Pak next so i can have some extra dsp power & buy some new plugins with the $500 voucher.

So what are your must have UAD plugins. I already have the Oxford Eq so is it worthwhile to get the Cambridge Eq? Is the Cambridge better at low/high passing & notching out stuff?

I'm mainly concerned with Eq's & compressors for the moment. I'll be enabling the demos one by one to see which one's i dig but i thought i'd ask to see which one's are your favorites.

P.S. Someone's offering the following UAD1 package for $500 do you guys think this is a better deal than the Flexi Pak ($700)? The total cost of these plugins is $680:
LA2A
Fairchild
Cambridge
Pultec Pro
Plate 140          http://www.soundcloud.com/getafixmusic

my suggestion (and what i would buy) is
the flexi pack and then take the 500$ voucher ,, add 100 dollars more ,,and buy online the NEVE bundle , which has three (or four?) plugins ,except the channel strip (which u can buy it for 250 bout more)
btw i think these 5 plugs you write are free with the flexipack , are they not?

I'm about a week away from buying one, I keep putting it off.

Do you like it so far?

I was at Alex Roudos' place and he pushed me to tipping point on buying one.. I'm sure he's got a lot of great input on the subject of UAD!

gutter, the flexi pack doesn't come with any of the plugins i mentioned. It includes the basic one's 1176, Pultec, Nigel, CS1, Dreamverb that come bundled with the project pak.

Tomos, i just got it & haven't really had time to play around much with the bundled plugins. I liked the 1176 & pultec but still have to get to know them inside out. I'm going to start enabling the demos on other plugins today & see how it goes.

The best thing about these cards is that they have a great resale value, so even if you don't like them you can always sell them off. I bought mine second hand for $270.

I wanted to join the club a while ago. I looked at the UAD-1e Extreme. A lot for the money if the emulations cut it. I also had a friend who kept insisting I get one.....lol

In the end I decided not to get something dependent on computer compatibility and bough a mountain bike!!!

More longterm I don't think the resale value will hold.           http://www.whatacunt.co.uk/

Just the plugins or an UAD-card too?

Anyway, I bought the studio pack for €300 with:

- cambridge
- fairchild
- dreamverb
- nigel
- pultec pro
- 1176LN
- 1176SE
- LA2A

Not sure if it's a good deal he's offering you allthough I heard the plate 140 is even better than the dreamverb (which is really sweet).           http://www.soundcloud.com/bandarlog

Talking about the uad in general, now that you bought it, do you think that it sounds better than the native couterpart ? I hesitate to buy one myself ...

Well, first of all congrats Get-a-fix for entering the club

My first advice would be not to enable a lot of demos at the same time. 14 days go really fast and you want to evaluate them in the best possible way. So, you could start the cambridge eq demo and compare it face to face with the Sonnox eq which you know how it sounds. Do the same with the comps and any other plug you might be interested in.

Fortunately for me i haven't been into the trip of buying them all and/or fast. Having only one card helps a lot on that. Whenever something new comes out, i check first the demo videos and wait to see what the feedback will be from other users. If everything is ok then i enable the demo to check it out. Usually i'm waiting until i have a project to mix or master so i can use this plug as well, and compare my mixes and masters after it expires, with the ones i made without using it. And that's what determines if i buy it or not.

Until now i have bought the Fairchild 670, Helios Type 69, Precision Enhancer, Precision Limiter, Precision DeEsser, Plate 140, Dimension D, Space Echo.

The Fairchild 670 is my main comp for guitars and vocals and my mastering comp as well. The Plate 140 is just the thing. Coupled with the IK CSR series and i'm done with verbs and plates. The Helios 69 changed my life. I can't really describe what it does, you need to hear it. Dimension D is great for vocals but actually it works so very good in anything you throw into it, but always on a separate bus. The Enhancer is a useful tool, it does it job very nicely, the Space Echo i didn't really checked it out yet but its time will come sooner or later. The Precision Limiter is again one of the best out there. The included Pultec is my main eq for vocals(try the male/female presence preset) and bass & kicks. The rest of the included plugs i don't really use them that often, so i can't comment, but they are very good as well.

As for the question if the UAD plugs sound better than the natives, i'd say yes but only if you want their specific sound. They are supposed to be the best emulations out there which means that they add the color of the hardware they emulate(as much as possible at least). If someone is looking for transparent plugs, the UAD is not the solution, except the Precision Series. If otherwise, it's the best solution, and they sound better than their native counterparts.

And my next plug will be the DBX VCA VU comp, and i'm gonna get it without even demoing it!!! But i'll be waiting for the next promotion voucher from UAD for sure.
A friend told me once that the biggest mistake we make is that we believe we live, when in reality we are sleeping in the waiting room of life.

I think i'm pretty sold on the Oxford Limiter! I liked the Pultec when i tried it out on bass, going to try it out on the kick as well

Yeah there seems to be a lot of praise about the DBX, i'm curious to try it out myself!
