I'm thinkin about selling my virus TI to get a better mac (i actually have a little macbook, not very powerful) and an UAD2 card. The TI is awesome but after all i think it is not worth its price..1700 euros (gasp)
So help me fellas, i dunno what to do : amazing sounds of the virus or Neve and Pultec plug suite ???

I think there are quite a few plug ins that sound as good as the TI, if not better (Im just not a fun of the Virus sound).
I have a quad MacPro and use only Logic 8's native synths, although I have been getting into Albino 3 and Zebra 2 lately.

i think you're right. Virus sounds quite digital, plus i use it like a plugin everytime so i think it's not worth the money, even if it sounds nice.
I think i will go for a Macpro and the UAD2, but i'm gonna sample this little bastard all the way before selling it

an interesting side note... i noticed some patches on the Omnisphere used samples from Sculpture LOL
about the UAD, does anyone have any good advice on EQs? i'm running the demos right now and seriously torn. I want to get one good EQ, and am torn between the Neve 1073 and the Precision EQ (primarily for brilliance, smooth highs, and air band)
I tried the Cambridge, but didnt think it sounded very smooth in the air band ( a little harsh and digital) although I think I may need to experiment with some of the features a little more
also the Pultec, while real nice and tubey seemed better at the mid range and bass than the high, and wasnt as smooth as either the Neve or Precision
any advice or opinions?

I read several reviews and the Neve EQs seem to be transparent, particularly the 88RS suite, analogue sounding but transparent (gotta push the values).
Cambridge is a bread & butter EQ i think. I plan to buy UAD almost only for this one.
Pultec is coloured -tubey as u said-, for sure. Not so good below 2000Hz but in the high spectrum it is incredible : u can push a lot the highs and it still sounds natural.
Haven't tested the UA ones btw...

I would get the Neve 1073 over the precision Eq. If you've got the Sonnox Eq then you're set as far as surgical eq is concerned.
So it makes sense to get the 1073 or the 88RS if you want to get more bang for the buck.

also you have the ssl duende pcie at 500 euro most ppl who own both say they sound better , they are very transparent and punchy ,perfect for psytrance imo but selling your virus to buy plugins i m not sure it s a good idea... except if you want to go legit , it won t be a big boost in sound quality. |
