Title : King of the night EP

Format : Digital

Tracklist :
1/ U-Prag, Flippers, DJ Slater : King of the night (original)
2/ U-Prag, Flippers, DJ Slater : King of the night (Perfect Stranger remix)
3/ U-Prag, Flippers, DJ Slater : King of the night (Koen Groeneweld remix)

The original composition is a nocturnal counterpart of a similarly titled piece released earlier at Tribal Vision. It features a Czech-Israeli collaboration featuring no less than five musicians behind the decks: the trio comprising Michal Smetana aka DJ Slater, head honcho of Tribal Vision Records with his accomplices Daniel Petkevic and Jan Stiborek from the genre-crossing drums band U-Prag. Together they have formed a live act that has already gained audience world wide, mixing electronic devices with acoustic instruments (percussions, cello) on stage. The other collaborator in this release is the Israeli act Flippers (Aviv Shriki and DJ Leo), who have quickly made a name for themselves with the kind of trendy, dance-friendly hybrid of techno-infused progressive house that thrives on the trance floors these days. Theyre no newcomers to TV , and have released numerous tracks on forefront labels such as LoKilk, Future Audio, Stereo Seven Plus etc. The output of this bi-national combo is an electroish, progressive peak time cracker that owes much to the art of one man: Franck Beckers. The wobbling bassline and tight clicking percussions ensure a perfect and ear-catching thrust, punctuated by effective interventions of the eponymous king of the night deep voice sample. The break adds a spooky dimension that acid lovers will chew on. Excellent dance floor material.

Maestro Yuli Fershtat, aka Perfect Stranger, needs no introduction here. He twists the original into his signature blend of groovy-tech and psychedelica, spices it with trippy hick ups, and tenses it up in one of those climactic and nerve-wrecking breaks for which he is second to none. Very good remix by one of the most consistent talents of the scene.

For good (and bad) reasons, the Progressive labels have been massively soliciting the talents of a trio of Techno producers to go on remix duty: Umek, Spektre and the Dutch heavy weight Koen Groeneveld. And indeed, with 28 pages of released tracks on Beatport probably 56 by the time youve finished reading these lines Groeneveld deserves respect, not only in deference to chart rankings. His rework is stripped back compared to the original, and globally inferior to the rest of this EP, due to an uncaptivating kick bass combo, while his main contribution to the arrangement consists in fusing the original bass motif into an electric guitar riff in the break, and eventually hammering a heavy snare in the final sequences.

All in all, there are two strong assets in this EP, the original and PSs remix.

Enjoy reading this review a lot, you should write more. As for the EP I like the original and the Groenvald for it's happy approach, Yuli drops it down in to a big melting pot of influences only known to him and yet I find it insteresting. It was a good EP from TVR
