too bad i dont like the oscillator of this synth as much as the xml filters and mseg !

for kicks really carefull tweaking is needed on the mseg amount and how high is the attack point ,the decay point and curve and sustain point,(the first dont need to be very high ,and the decay point dont need to be on the lowest position) you can use the snap fonction to keep them in tune but it s not a must. it can go to complete shit kicks to kicks that can make it to released track wiht almost no processing but the sweet spots can be hard to find at first.but yes kick can be way more cleaner and puncy than bazzism and as good as utlrabeat or better (the highs can saturate on ub while in zebra it s cleaner and you have more control with the click setting, this is set too high on ub or my taste and there is no way you can change it.)

You can change everything about the click when making kicks in UB. You have various parameters for doing so, select the top/start frequency from where the sine will sweep, the envelope that will let you make anything from a really tight 808 kick to the old lazer like goa kick and everything in between and then you also have the asym parameter to "shimer" up the click and go into electro kick territory. Look into it some more, its all there.

Peace out.

was thinking to a paramater on zebra filter that change a bit the self oscillating behavior , it can give a smooth to harder attack on kick it can be usefull.

but yes i like a lot ultrabeat , it give great result in not time , while in zebra more tweaking is needed but it s very good too,you can get similar kicks on both.
zebra can be a very good drum synth too .

Here we go with a couple of kick patches that i've done with different techniques (Cosmosis 909 and selfresonating XMF driven by MSEG).

Remember that are not ready to go but can be useful sketches to design your own or to understand some things.

Have fun!

Here you find 2 kind of kicks done with Zebra, so you can dissect the patch.

And here you find an old video:

tbh its so much about taste that i m not sure it would be usefull ,but check ohshit patchs or/and follow what i wrote above from a innit patch and tweak to your taste, all the bases are there.

tweaking the kick & bassline synths and their processing chain to sound great toghter is a big advantage, it really depends about the bassline too, it make me think a tutorial should cover both and not only kick or bassline .

thank you both PoM and ohshit.

i honestly think a lot of my kicks from now on will be made with zebra or another soft synth in this way.           Dance, even if you have nowhere to do it but your living room. ~Kurt Vonnegut

I really like zebra for some kinds of sounds, especially for making percussion synths, and some times leads.
It´s different layout, flexibillity, the routing possibillitys and automation way suits me.

Thanks for that kick advice, gnna try it out!.
