i make all my kicks with zebra since some time, from teckish 808 kicks to psy kick ,the self oscillating xml filter and msg envelop are dope, sound better than ultrabeat or bazzism or everyhting else i used for sine pitched psy kicks.

with zebra 2.5 you put some midi notes 4/4 you remove the oscillator in a innit patch, you remove attack smoothing and voice detune in global, you load the xml filter , you crank the resonance at max you turn the click a bit ,around 30 is fine for starting point (then come back on this later, the more you turn it up the more the kick have agressive attack) , you set the filter in the low then add mseg to modulate the filter ,that the basic.
you have to tweak carrefully , the key are the envelop amount on the filter, curves of the envelop(for psy kick i use 3 point with the speed at sixteen),filter position ,the amp envelop and it should sound great, then some eq and compression if needed and just a very very little bit of reverb can make wonders to give it more depth and give the final touch.

Here we go with a couple of kick patches that i've done with different techniques (Cosmosis 909 and selfresonating XMF driven by MSEG).

Remember that are not ready to go but can be useful sketches to design your own or to understand some things.

Have fun!

The Virus sounds great to my ears same with zebra. Sylenth as well, i love sylenth for bass.

mmmm......generally i would agree with this
but having recently had a set of headphones plugged into a mates 303 i would mention that even the 303 has a squeeky as fuck sawtooth oscillator

so if your Virus sounds plastic im afraid your not getting the best out of it

the main thing with any type of Va be it harware or software is that most of these rely on you finding a sweet spot to get the best sound
try using a single classic Sawtooth through the Analogue filter (18db)
Pretty fucking close to analogue IMHO           Â°Â°Â°ACTS 4:12°°°°
