Anything involving potatoes and corn/maize and lots of milk/butter.
Specifically california food: Anything with jalapeno peppers and avocado. |

This is a complicated question that I've thought of many times.
I have two different categories of "American Food."
Category 1:
Burgers, Shakes, Apple Pie, Thanksgiving Dinner (everything), Biscuits, Wings, Ribs, BBQ, Corn, etc.
Category 2:
The fusion of ethnic foods. (Southwest styled Japanese food anyone?) This would also include "ethnic" dishes which are American in origin. (I've been told that Fajitas are not really Mexican in origin, but American for instance).
I would also include food that we Americans eat on a regular basis, and might not really classify into any specific category. (Bagels and Cream Cheese anyone?)

midwestern food - chili (as in, bean chili), burgers, corn, deep dish pizza
east coast - cheesesteak sandwich, reuben sandwich, various other types of sandwiches, NY style pizza, buffalo wings, seafood dishes in new england
Fried chicken, barbeque, biscuits, grits, collard greens - soul/southern cuisine
southwestern - green chile, burritos, chile rellenos, chimichangas, breakfast burritos, nachos, etc.
cajun cuisine - wouldn't even know where to start
  ..it's just another party.. |

And... after trying all of the above you'll be ready to go
to a raw food diet! Juicing, etc.
All in all, this would give you the full culinary experience
of the United States of Psy.
