Yes there are some common ones:

- FM based
- 303 / acid (resonance synths)
- PWM
- Ring Mod / AM
- Legato / Glide
- Pitch Mod Leads ENV/LFO ("Squelchy")
- Detuned multi osc
- Plucks

Take into account that half the sound is the midi pattern and half the synth program itself (and the insert fx one might use).

After a while you will understand that most of the psyleads come from a combination of clever filter / resonance use in combination with interesting patterns and pitch bending / modulation through effective DISTORTION units sent to spacey time based FX.

Hope this helps.

Using any sound with crazy effects on them can work, i like to do this to experiment and see what happens, i particularly like Audio Damage effects for this purpose.           Check out my site for Video tutorials and other tips & Tricks

I struggle with the melodies more than anything i think with psy you want them to be simple and deep and meaningful rather than over the top and cheesy.           GoneWest
