As the other thread closed before i could add my 2 cents, i am posting it here:
Wow! how controversial... at least this reminded me why i don't look at these forums anymore kinda weird reading messages from people i have never met (and by the look of things, i don't think i want to now) who have strange opinions about me, my beliefs and attitudes...for example HotPotatoDongle saying i think i am a rockstar...you know nothing about me or my insecurities in fact i spend most of the week before a gig on the toilet emptying my guts in fear... is that too much detail? lol.. now you DO actually know something about me!
i guess it's natural - by choosing to make a few records, i am opening a part of my soul for public consumption... some people of course will want to eat you alive, for whatever reason.... but what DOES upset me, is when 1 person slags off hundreds of people, maybe thousands, who had a fantastic time at the twisted party... calling them "idiots"... er...when did it become stupid to have a good time? did i miss a post somewhere?
Also, it makes me sad when i see how hard so many people worked for this event, trying to do something different from a regular trance party...and it can be 'rubbished' by others who didn't even go... unbelievable!
I would particularly like to thank Liquid Ross, who organised the whole thing, worked really hard for months, and then lost the shirt off his back... Calve and Ralph and friends who worked on the visuals - i think they put someting together that looked absolutely stunning, as you can see from the youtube video that someone posted earlier... both simons from Twisted, who were working tirelessly on this, for no money (twisted aren't making anything from this event, just so you know)... And of course all the artists who do loads of work previous to the actual show... Personally i haven't had a spare moment to work on anything else for the last month... i wanted to write some more hallucinogen tunes, and take some other gigs, which i had no time to do... every day for the last month we have been on this, slogging our guts out... bear in mind that 1 month ago the band from younger brother hadn't even MET! nor had Hallucinogen in Dub... obviously i knew ott and youth, but we hadn't met the drummer, and had no idea if he was even up to the job... those that were at the party i think will testify he did an awesome job... as did The Bays, doing drums and bass for younger brother.... they are all REALLY nice guys, no egos at all, who worked so hard on this without any bitching or complaining... i have definitely made some new friends, and i am honoured to work with musicians of such a high calibre... i was the weakest link, for sure... but we all did our absolute best, putting in more than 100% to try and make a different show that people would enjoy, and our fans would be pleased with... it hurts me to see such nice people slagged off... we just tried our hardest to do something good and new for our fans... believe me, i would be perfectly happy not to play brixton academy... i'd much rather sit at home eating boiled sweets and watching people rant about someone else on this forum
many things were beyond our control: in the soundcheck we were able to run through only 1 song each... i couldn't check the sound out front while we were playing, as my guitar cable wasn't long enough... but i think Britt Row did a great job on the sound... sure there were moments when certain problems occurred, but they were pretty 'on it', and 10 mins later the sound would be ok again... The Bays said it was the best sound they had ever had onstage, and really enjoyed it... so thank you to britt row, greg the soundman, and everybody who tried really hard to make that shocking venue sound as good as it could... personally i have always hated the sound at the academy... acoustically for music it is awful... every band i have ever seen there has suffered, and it is the main reason i didn't want to do the gig there... however the last twisted party i thought was overcrowded, and i guess the choice of venues in london is pretty limited... of course we would all prefer to be outside under the stars, with the moon and the sun shining, beneath a rainbow by a beach and a waterfall and hot springs! but that goes without saying... we all did as best we could with the cards we were dealt... Please don't hate us for it... of course it is much easier for us to stay at home and not bother doing anything... indeed it seems some people would rather we did exactly that!
As for the ridiculous blah about twisted holding onto the money or whatever, well brixton academy have to process ALL the money, and no-one gets paid on the night... it's unfair i know... london is such a rip-off i could have done with some cash that night... as far as i know the only people to have been paid from this are brixton academy... nobody else has been paid yet... i certainly haven't....none of the artists will be getting the fees they were promised (not because of twisted,or liquid, or any other reason than a desire to help out ross who lost money on this event) apart from the DJs on this forum that simon b mentioned he has paid out of his own pocket...
The bottom line is this: the people who you are enjoying slagging off are all real people who worked their bollox off for this event... they have feelings too, and did their jobs with love and soul, and the belief that they were trying to create something amazing... it's so frikkin easy to point the finger and say "they failed", but at least they tried, and the overwhelming evidence is that at least 2000 people had a fantastic night out, some will never forget it, and there was really a great vibe at the party... if they are all "psy idiots", then so am i, and proud to be one!

Nice post Si - but it doesn't condone Ott calling names - you didn't need to post that, but good on you for doing so.
Rock on the next Twisted Party
perhaps without Ott

yer right!
Why not just learn from the abundance of Brits who have posted and make sure the NEXT one is better - without all the vacuous comments from Ott et al... Get a better venue, hire the best sound rig, make people happy with no complaints - is it that hard?
Why not make the next Twisted party in Europe - away from the UK??? Better response me thinks
The fact you are still quoting HPD is laughable - get a grip - one post from a nobody makes Twisted spasm? |

There's a lack of decent quality large venues in London that are suitable for dance events. The big advantage of the Academy is that its designed to have everyone there in the one room (unlike, say SEOne - where if everyone tries to get into the one room its a nightmare).
I wasnt there on Friday (was going to something else on the sat) - but I've always like the Academy - just becasue of its big epic feel - but I've seen a few bands there and been to other big dance events (Pendragons & RTTS) and the sound is always bit ropey - just becasue of the shape of the room.
However if anyoen here comes across the ideal venue - I'm sure there are lots of promoters eager to hear.
I think good on Twisted for trying something different than "another psy party" - its just a shame there was so few through the door...

Re: Balcony and not as many as expected...
SMS texts
"Hey mate - don't bother with the Academy, the balcony is closed"
For an event aimed at trippers, are you surprised?
Nobody wants to hang around downstairs all night, or in a CORRIDOR - wtf? the best part of that venue was closed.
Hammersmith Odeon would have been better for the amount of people. |

Are you seriously suggesting that the low numbers were to do with people's mates txting them to warn them the balcony was closed?
Its normal practice at the Academy (or any multi roomed venue come to that) to close off part of the venue if numbers are low in order to keep the atmosphere.

Of course not - get a grip - it was just an example as to why maybe 500 didn't bother - the low numbers were due to crap marketing - maybe if Ott had said 'hey, here's a new slim me' all the weight watchers would have attended? |

What about the Fridge? That's a brilliant venue and has great sound. There's the EQ in Hackney, which I suppose is pretty small for a huge night. Mm, the Rex.. that's pretty shitty too..
Are the Drome people still around? They used to specialise in finding places that could be good venues and hiring them out to nights legit. There was an Antiworld at a great one somewhere round by Elephant and Castle in 2000 once, a real squat party vibe if I remember. There are good places.

There's very few for the amount of people that was obviously amied for (3000+) e.g. the Fridge has an (official) capacity of (I think) 1200 - I've been in there with almost 2000 and it was not pleasant... |

So why not a venue in Europe? Maybe Germany - say Berlin? Guaranteed 5000 punters - rather than a crappy UK venue - and then all this BS from Twisted Artists - including Simon Posford - he's not a God and certainly not immune to a discussion - so - let's agree the UK party was crappy - most punters thought it was the dog's bollox - but in future... to make a PROFIT and not get all hissy on the net - do it in Paris or Barcelona - or wherever - anywhere BUT the UK
So many people flew in to be at this party
Do the honour of making their hard earned cash worthwhle - Brixton Academy was the CHEAP option |

As you said - most folk who went seemed to have really enjoyed themselves.. so I'm not sure why this thread has taken on the life it has - I spose thats just the nature of discussion forums... |
