I also wanted to buy a hooded top but they dont have pics for all colors and combinations, and are also very small.           "The dedication to repetition — the search for nirvana in a single held tone or an endlessly cycling rhythm — is one of electronic music's noblest gestures."

If Twisted released some good trance records again, it would not go bust. Where are tunes like Cosmos 99 and Cyclone? La Caixa? Mescalito and Pura Vida? Where are compilations like the Unusual Suspects volumes and the Twisted Sessions? Albums like Audiodrome, Twisted and the Lone Deranger?

Yes things have changed, but people still buy music they REALLY like.

You are being too optimistic.
Besides, I am guessing at least Simon and Benji are tired of uptempo music and Tristan moved to Nano Records years ago.
They had The Good The Bad and The Ugly album a while ago and it was quite a dud. They also had the last KoxBox album and while it was quite cool I don't remember it was that well received.           Everyone in the world is doing something without me

I cherish the days where I would run down to psy DMT in Camden Town to buy the new 12"s from Twisted and DDrum. There were quite a lot of people buying records there too. That was like a decade ago though.

Shall we have another its not as good it used to be thread?...

here’s something I think is relevant that I wrote originally upon request for Revolve magazine in the UK about two years ago. I’d appreciate it if you give 5 minutes of your time to read and think about it:

Should we buy our music?

A question everyone with a computer faces these days is should I buy my music or should I just download it for free. Every musical piece that exists these days (and even some that don’t) is available for download for free through myriad of ways. So should we buy our music? As someone who’s been buying music and getting it in other ways for a long time, and as someone who has a label and is involved very much in our small alternative musical scene I want to offer some insights.

Let’s go back in time… quite a long way back… when I started to get into music, I used to record music on cassettes - we didn’t have much money, so we used to go 3-4 friends to a record store, each would buy one record, and then we would go back home and each would record the others’ records to a tape. Downloading/sharing is the same, basically, isn’t it? Both are illegal copying. Well, the scale is different. For one person who buys a CD, you have millions who share it with him. This does put us in danger of making music making something you can’t live from, and that is especially true if you’re not an artist that performs a lot (if you perform a lot, you might be able to live from shows).

The way I see it, this is a very simple thing. You want good music from artists and labels, you gotta make it possible for them to make it and live from it, especially when you’re talking of underground music that doesn’t have a big market, that doesn’t have a commercial appeal. Draw your line, as long as you do all you can to support the music you love, it’s OK. Once you cross that line and start getting something you really like for free, when you can afford to buy it, you choke the music, and then you won’t have good music- very simple.

We have to get it into our minds, that if we don’t give back to the music we like- it will deteriorate, and finally disappear. The good artists that devote themselves to their art, that work professionally, that walk new paths, will quit or go where the money is (commercial music). The good labels that present an interesting musical vision, invest in their artists and develop them, will dwindle and die. This is already happening and for quite a while. Let’s no kid ourselves, good original, mature, deep, professionally made music is very hard to come by in our scene.

Music, as all forms of art, was never in history a profitable business. Musicians and music institutes were always supported, by kings, by aristocrats, by governments. We live in a better age- it is in our hands to support the musicians we like and the music we like. Let’s do it. It can work.

So, if you like it- support it, buy it!!! If you don’t- you won’t have more of it. Very simple.

Also more interesting reading about the subject:
A very interesting article by Robert Rich about being a non-commercial artist in the Internet age: http://robertrich.com/1000-true-fans-an-answer/

Cheers,
Shahar

^^Nice way to put it Shahar. Seems honest without the typical lame "you are stealing!" guilt twist.

Simon said a lot of money goes into live shows. They pay the musicians loads of money and spend a lot on decoration and lighting and stuff. I think they also spent quite some money on the artwork of the newest album, but I'm not sure. Plus, Twisted hasn't been releasing much lately (and apparently it didn't all sell that well) and of course Simon H. has to pay his bills and all the artists get money too..

As for the thing about them not being serious about their money issues... I think they do it like this: first they care about making awesome music, then they care about their fans (cause Simon actually wants to overpay the Shpongle musicians because he loves them for what they do).. And lastly they care about their money. Might not be smart business-wise, but I think it does make sense.

Btw Simon has been active on the forums a lot lately, that's very nice. And I agree that they should do more promotion, but it costs money which they don't have, I suppose.. Now the fans are doing the promotion

Twisted already has a download portal where you can download music: http://www.twisteddownloads.com/ but I guess not much people know about it, plus they should probably offer it in FLAC quality with high resolution digital artwork.

You guys really need to start taking reading lessons.
SIMON POSFORD = HALLUCINOGEN/SHPONGLE
SIMON HOLTOM = TWISTED RECORDS
The one with the economical problems is Simon Holtom who handles the albums/the web site/the promotions etc... He doesn't handle Simon's gigs.

And I really MUST SAY SOMETHING about that Australia thing!!!

It was a SCAM!!! The organiser NEVER gave Twisted the money and instead RAN OFF with the money from EVERYONE that bought tickets!! http://twisted.co.uk/shponglelive/Shpongle_Live_in_Australia_Statement08.12.08.html, http://www.twistedmusic.com/forums/viewthread/2921/P30/#14414 (and under)

And indeed, it's not Simon P who's in trouble, but the label. So Simon P's live incomes don't have a lot to do with it anyway. Plus as I said... Shpongle spends a LOT of the money they get on the musicians they hire and on creating a good show for the fans. I don't believe they are after huge amounts of profit. Simon P can make a living with DJ'ing and that's enough for him.
