if twisted the label needs help why dont they pay from their own artist pocket . After all simon even for dj set charges a bomb.i wonder who is he paying then.

Can they put down their overheads here?So ppl know where is the money goin before donating.

i lost all respect for the label when i read this post bout twisted and their begging bowl idea .

When they were selling thousands of cds .
Did they even think of doing some charity, like sponsoring some talented guys with some equipment or giving freebies to their fans .

Sounds Karmic. im sure they did some bad things in the past yrs (maybe not Simon, maybe rajaram ) .thats why the album got leaked ,label is dying.

hope all goes good ,if not

someone made a very important point...

don't forget that there are lots of other labels that are also struggling.

it's great that Twisted have made a number of sales from this thread. but there are also other labels who are doing fantastic work and who also need our support.

and who knows? in ten years time maybe one of them might be as influential or epoch-changing as Twisted.

Honestly with all the sales Twisted has generated over the years (people claim huge sales for releases such as Shpongle) then there's something wrong here. Maybe they lived a little too well of the money they made from these huge sales instead of reinvesting them or saving them for a rainy day?

I don't know and of course it's Twisted's right to use their money the way they want. But I do know I don't like to see people with such huge income from gigs and sales begging for money in Public.

What about all the equal talented struggling artists and labels out there? Why don't they get some help too?           www.beatagency.dk

I don't get it. Why do people think that labels which are not booking agents are supposed to take money from their artists' live acts? It's like saying "hey, Pizza Hut is in trouble, they should just take money from their workers' tips". It's not their money to take. You're losing respect for them for not doing that? If anything, they deserve respect for it.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Hmmm, perhaps that's the way their contracts are drafted? There's no doubt artists probably get more bookings being associated with a label such as Twisted. Anyways, when they say they're unable to pay artists I think they're referring to producing new albums; so, artists are looking out for other deals.

ANYWAYS, I don't feel sorry for this crap. Learn how to manage your money. This beggary is so pathetic!

Hey, it's business. A lot of labels stuck on a 1990s-type business model are going to fail. The market has changed and these businesses need to innovate to remain in the game. If the money's in booking and these people work on this stuff full time then it obviously makes sense to expand the business into booking as many other successful labels have done. But no, they're just asking for a sympathetic subsidy. It'll work for a time but, as I mentioned earlier, it is not a long-term solution.

Just came across this in an interview with Brian Eno today:

Quote:
"I think records were just a little bubble through time and those who made a living from them for a while were lucky. There is no reason why anyone should have made so much money from selling records except that everything was right for this period of time. I always knew it would run out sooner or later. It couldn't last, and now it's running out. I don't particularly care that it is and like the way things are going. The record age was just a blip. It was a bit like if you had a source of whale blubber in the 1840s and it could be used as fuel. Before gas came along, if you traded in whale blubber, you were the richest man on Earth. Then gas came along and you'd be stuck with your whale blubber. Sorry mate – history's moving along. Recorded music equals whale blubber. Eventually, something else will replace it."

I like the "whale blubber" analogy.
