i wanna see one on how to make background rhythms for psytrance maybe using battery. The rhythms that go on in the background that aren't just the kick, hihat, and snare/clap.
Because I always listen to psytrance tracks that have amazing background percussion that I feel like I just have no idea how to emulate. |

Yeah man theres so many of them out there. There's a few really good ones that are in REX format so you can rearrange them as you see fit. You know the Hallucinogen song DMT? A while back on this board it was discovered the vocal samples were taken almost exactly off the sample cd. Not rearranged hardly at all. Hate to bash Simon but yeah, Simon.

zero-g makes a lot of good stuff.
zero-g downbeat dance grooves
zero-g total rex (this is my favorite)
samplelab broken beats
eLab - they have a very good snare pack
equipped music nu jazz funk
jungle warfare (rexes)
rex files are my favorite to work with.

I remember when i thought it was lame to use drumloops, well even worse than lame, it was out of the question!!
though now i am of a different opinion, drumloops can be a real good spice to compliment your other percussion.. if they work that is.
sometimes you can slice up the drumloops and make your own beat of the slices.. that is also very nice
you see those drumloops has been handcrafted with only the loop in mind, so the good ones are in real good quality. of course there are some half decent that you will have to spice up with some compression and such..
though i dont think loops is a solution for all your percussion, firstly you should make some own beats that sound decent, but preferably good..
i would recommend the dr rex loops in reason and the loops in Stylus RMX.. but you can find loops everywere... lets say you like a snare in a loop, take it out and re-sequence it
now when you use good loops you have to be able to merge them to your track, cause one good drumloop wont save a badly created track, it will just sound silly and obvious that its a taken loop...
i say do what your track needs..
Sometimes listening to a loop in context to your track can give inspiration to what the track really needs, and many times i might not be that loop and you have to dig in and create something your self that fits better..
Taking a day to create your own loops is always best idea, you get the originality that is very important for self expression and you will feel much better about it..
So dont ignore loops but use them with moral!

Yes use loops with morale. I can manually sequence and quantize a shaker pattern and spend 10 minutes or I can use a loop that is already suitable for me. I think people need to be able to RECREATE the loops they are using but there is nothing wrong with a few drum loops here and there. Because, it really does take vast amounts of time to pitch snares, and add a little swing to make a drum loop come out "pro"
