tried that, but didn't work. I'm currently running a parallel disk I set up to try ML + Logic X. I think the midi instruments are cool, but honestly feel more motivated to get some plug-in for 9 that covers the functionalities and keep my rig as it is. wouldn't make much sense to review all my projects that have 32bit plugs on them just to keep in pace with the "so called evolution". I don't think these features are "big" for 4 years down the line. I see the major investment was to make Logic X more "welcome" for garageband users. You need to tick in a menu you want the "advanced user" features just to get access to the good old "sample editor" - that is called something like "enable destructive audio edditing" now.

I say with something like melodyne and granted you have toon track or kontakt's library drums to cover for realistic drum sound, you really won't miss much on anything they've created. I think the new interface isn't all that great tbo. They've made everything excessively big - even if you have the big large screens like I do here.

And if they get people with 2007 mac pros to buy new macs just to run this - those that are not willing to do hacks like you teach here (and by the way, thanks, it's a very nice move on your behalf) just because someone has decided to put there a number to block it. That's what I call pushing the envelope in a very agressive way.

About snow leopard, well, it may lack some features that will ultimately allow the app to run - since it's two OS versions behind now. But the fact is, I'm pretty sure all the plug-ins, including drummer and retro synth, let alone the midi instruments, could have been programmed to run in 9 and they could call it a simple and honest update. Still allowing people to run in 32 or 64 bit mode. And of course this is true, you have third party plug-ins that do pretty much the same - only better, specially in the case of retro synth. How does it compare to Monark for analogue sounds? Or Diva?

How about making a modern audio analyser? Adding an analogue modeled EQ and compressor? updating the ESX 24 and it's integration? flex pitch is one of the features where Logic was actually lagging behind compared to Cubase (vari audio) and Ableton (audio to midi convertion + non destructive pitch editing).

I'd be happy with even simpler features like: when you "bounce in place", you could have an option that would automaticly include the "auxiliary bus" sends and buses if you wanted to - you have to use the normal bounce and pick it from the audio bin...

Well, opinions differ on Gearslutz.
Half the people love it, half the people hate it.
Half the people say this upgrade is amazing and they think the Drummer thingy is the best thing since sliced bread, other think Apple is "dumbening down" a professional DAW for Apple hobbyists and "prosumers".
Some people love the way it looks, others hate it.
Some people say its the end of Logic Pro, others say that the 64bit only path, opens up a door for new coding with updates and with the next version of Logic, a fully new audio engine.

All this is to be seen...in any case, the new GUI puts me off and there is nothing in the new version that I need and can't get with 3rd party software.

I am on the fence about this whole thing, it does look like Apple just wants to make this more appealing to garage bands, people that don't have a good drummer in the band, people who can't sing...etc.

And on top of all that, Logic Pro 9 (I use Logic Pro 8 on my MacPro) with SL, does everything I need and things are where they are supposed to be and look nice on the eyes. So its back the old PC days, where I was stuck with Logic 5.5 on Win98SE and I was making music, without worrying about the latest technology around. Crazy thing is that my "demo" version of Logic 5.5 on Win98SE was a lot more stable than my legit version of Logic 8 on Tiger and Snow Leopard OS... go figure...

yep, the amount of work involved in a system change of this proportion is something I just can't afford to, right now... It would take me days to go through the projects and see what I had to bounce down to cover for unsupported plug-ins just to make the move. And we all know some of them are an important part of our chain for getting some sounds the way we like them.

@nectarios

never tried the old Logic 5 for pc. but it's funny you say that it was more stable, even though a big part of the plug-ins has remained the same. the impression I get from all of this is that software developers tend to push things into more demanding system requirements even though it will just make what it used to, even use the same instruments and plug-ins, but all of a sudden you get a core2duo or quad or something getting a big cpu hit for doing what you used to do with a pentium 4 back in the days.

I also read between the lines the way you did, about the drummer. best use for it for people who know their business is what POM said somewhere in here: it creates very smooth, better then "hitting the humanize midi function" patterns that are sensible to where you are on the song - most specially if you've used the markers to separate parts. I think there's an option there to make it follow a given instrument, or the global track's markers, or this or that - but I'm not so sure, as I've only took a walk in the new system. But it's a good thing you can drag the created midi to your own drum kit or whatever and take it from there. The included drum kits are cool, very sensitive to velocity and such, and I thought I might restart the mac once in a while to design some costume transition drums on the fly for latter tweaking back in 9 - if that even makes sense. Will probably also turn to it while making patches on hardware synths, as the midi plug-ins are really simple and handy (it's the only thing I really like on X, tbo) to record some phrases and the midi.

Btw, do you guys know of any plug-ins that would to that? I could use some cool arp plug-in like the one in Logic X, with a gate function, note length, costumizable modulations... if anyone knows of one, please! XD

the new audio engine should have made it to this upgrade. that and a new version of the audio unit format with better midi and audio connectivity (we talked about this already). Even though I'm sure I run a pretty solid and stable system, I get the feeling it's not exactly perfect (anywhere) because it tends to overload some cores while others are almost innactive. You guys also notice this, I'm sure.

makes me think of Universal Audio more and more... but that's like a lot of money. but it's growing on me that one.
