neat. ezpz to do in ableton. add audio effect rack, insert chain, duplicate chain, insert utility effect with phz-L and R both enabled then tweak volume.

got a nice effect with a simple auto pan after the utility on the inverted chain

That's sneaky weird sounding.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

This is with an externally-triggered gate on the inverted chain, yes?

One thing I don't quite understand - surely an autopan on the inverted chain would just result in another autopan but with reversed LFO phase? Or am I missing something?

nope, no externally triggered gate, just an audio rack with one regular chain and one inverted chain.

I get the expected behavior of no sound when both are at the same volume level and different filtering type effects when volume is changed.

andddd you're not missing anything. I did an A/B of this entire (inverted and autopan)+regular rack vs just an Autopan set to the same settings and its the same thing.

guess I just smoked a little too much before reading this thread and trying it out            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

try it with Driver, now get hipass angry fx module.... not sure bout the delay ,only theory as i dont got one in hardware and am not near my music pc. so no way to try it out.

would be nice if folksa stuck some audio up to match results, see if all the bother is worth it for the result

my main jolly with this trick is the fact thst when used on hardware all the origional controls are applied so no need for assigning stuff,

ive found it usefull in the modular aspect to work round some limitations ,ie vactrol filters that cant really handle audio rate modulation, with this technique you can get around this as there are no componants slowing the mod down.           Â°Â°Â°ACTS 4:12°°°°

i can't see past the phase cancelation ducking effect - which is good as an alternative to regular sidechain, in the sense you don't have to set up a compressor for each channel/group, and behaves/sounds a lot different. and maybe some odd sounding effects.

about panning: there was a thread here once that suggested you can like M/S decode stuff by using phase cancelation (doubles panned in opposite directions and volume pairs) instead of a M/S code/decode plug-in. is that what people are talking about here?

nice example of someone using a buchla music easel for the quasi hi pass filter trick

I tried it with the Phatty. Nifty trick but not really usable in my case.
