anything really
basicly its for single saw osc or maybe one combined with sine.
you can test it on vb1 'synth bass' preset , or alien 303 basses.
for eq u can use FL eq2 , voxengo gliss , i prefer those with the spectrum analizer build-in so you also see what you do and understand it inside out

elad mate how many Db's should the eq notches be? say my bass is in b1 where would u start constructing your notches,, gimme an example of what you would do if your bass is in a certai n key (any) and where u uasually deploy your notches and how many dbs for eachone.
b1 i know peaks at 68hz (fundimently) then the harmonics follows and mathematicly doubles itself sort of.
how many dbs should 40hz-68hz ideally be peaking (c1-g1)
thanks

You don't always need to be notching your bass notes at their fundamental. I've never done it that way and my bass has always sounded good. Work on making it sound good with envelope parameters first, then eq only if necessary.

I do mate, i spend atleast an hour tweaking my bass synth... Velosity-volume-env bla bla..
It's just that elad mentioned about notches, I dint mean notch out the fundimentle anyways I was talking about the harmonics and how many DBS should the subs be

Jizzy, this is intended for begginers and i guess we should not include harmonics etc now.
Maybe you could post your question in the mother of all basslines topic if the answer isn´t already there.
I am a begginer and I think we should keep this topic simple to understand for begginers all all kind.
This is my opinion of course

Ok. Still though, there's not really a general rule to follow for this imo. It should just be based on what you NEED to do based on how you created that specific bass (ie- sometime it's -3dB, sometimes -2dB, etc). Create the bass as best you can, then use your ears to hear what notch amount sounds best.

lesson 2
Create Your Own Drum & Percussion Loops (or small changes big difference)
so lets make our kit first
for drums i use the following:
closed hihat
open hihat
sometimes third hihat for variation
snare
perc-snare *rim
crash cymbal
splash cymbal
(do i sound like the dude from 'this is rocknroll' video lol)
for percussion , any "set" would work
tabla
darbuka
bongo
congo
tom tom
click's and tuktuk's (legendary minimal tech 808 good possibility)
always nice to morph sounds to be 'like' one of the kit.. like laser instead of open hihat or something.. be creative..
so.. lets first start with drums
basic pattern in the track is
1/16 running close hihat (electronic sense)
off-beat open hihat (complete the other hihat)
snare every 2nd and 4th beat (just like in reak music)
rim as 'snare helper' to make it abit more groovy
offcourse many variations to this loop , like have the snares on 1st and 3rd beat to build more tension , get the open hihat to be on the beat and stuff like this..
you can also 'think like' drummer for making the hihats as if you were playing it (linking to midi controller and recording in half time helps)
now for percussion , lets make some kind of sense , if we try to imitate percussion section we need first thing to think of panning:
some hits come from the left hand and some from the right , good to make that as general guide for the panoramic map.
also if using more then 1 of the kits then you can have 1 in left one in right (no need to go 100% here)
so good example would be prog trance who made their trademark on the wiggle rythm , lets make sure everybody knows this one:
1--2--3-1--2--3-
the 1 hit is optional , also you can move that hole pattern 1/16th back of forth (also 1/8 to 'reverse' the groove)
(you can play with this rythm to get fullon cheese bass too when making all the notes in the root and only make melody with the 'wiggle notes')
allrighty then , so we have the loops now its time for the small changes
lets go back to the drum loop , have each drum on his own channel.
add reverb in aux channel
send the snare with 0% to the reverb
now make automation for the reverb to go up (the %) in saw shape up for 16 kicks and then looping back to 0% (popular techno trick)
lets try to send the open hihat to delay channel (again as aux) and send random notes to that delay.. allready getting nicer color to the loop here..
for the percussion always indeed nice to 'reverse' the groove by moving the loop back 1/8 after some time its playing and get monotonic
also some of those hits can send to the aux to get it more alive.
for the closed hihats i like to glitch them alot with edit work as well glitch plugins (effectrix , dbglitch , replicunt , livecut etc)
offcourse editing the outcome and mixing it alot with the dry channel.. but thats great quick way to get awsome rythms.
so.. hope you enjoy any qustion is welcome www.sattelbattle.com

Nice work again, much appreciated. I think it would be cool if you could include a screen grab of your drum beats in a piano-roll or whatever to make it easier to understand though. A picture speaks a thousand words so they say
