hey guys
so this is going to be my weekly tip for begginers , stay tuned and help with info of your own.
Lesson 1: Bass EQ
1.LP filter
remove annoying clicks and noises
2.HP filter
remove rumble and over emphasized sub freqs. can play with resonance in some eq's to compensate the lost 'fat'. becarefull to not over-do.
3.Notch filter
when used (if at all) reccomended to remove one of the bass harmonics . or to have bigger 'deep' between them.
makes very "clean" effect , as well leave some space for the kick or leads (depend where you cut)
4.Low Shelf
makes the sound fatter or thiner , according to needs (original patch can be either)
5.High Shelf
can bring out some clearity and brightness if needed
6.Peak Filter
with quite sharp resonance can 'point out' the 2nd or 3rd bass harmonic (around 50-200hz) "bass boost" on not so wide range as low shelf
*can be used as 'semi' notch filter for clean out the harmonic unwanted.
just one way.. work nice with saw osc from various synths or vb1 'synth bass' patch.
the better the starting point the less u need to tweek it , but still eq is main tool so..

One thing that confused me when I started, that I'll add to this is:
low pass (lp)= high cut (cuts out high frequencies)
high pass (hp)= low cut (cuts out low frequencies)
I'm very used to using abbreviations in tech papers and the one rule is to always define the term before you use an abbreviation. Just something to lessen the confusion that everyone has when they start

I always like to see how everyone els uses the tools...
I will deff. be checking in on these...
As a self taught artist I am always tring to learn more technical tweaks.

HI Elad.
I include myself on the begginers group.
Just a question:
Shouldn't we include BP (band pass) filter on the list?

daniel - i would skip BP filter on bass.
you allready using HP and LP to create the 'borders' fot the sound.
saii - the loops made in FL with random samples (mostly the thomas penton essentials)
some are 'dry' and some have reverbs and delays on them..
basicly used close hihat - open hihat - snare - percussion - one more percussion.
not all the same but that was the main idea.
thanx all for your comments

Altough if you have an adjustable bandpass, that is the perfect curve for bass Cut under 25-35 and over x freq according to bass-sound
