Hello, i tried many years to make my track realy pump out of the speakers...
Now im using logic send efx to make it real punch and im geting a realy nice result the only thing i think im lacking now is a bit more
Low freq cause when i use this send efx i get
loud and no cliping volume but the track looks
a little too bit in Mid freq for me...
Any advice on how to get more low freq without loosing mix power and punch?
I using the kick and bass boost around 70hz and 110hz and about +2db in each eq sending bass and kick to diferent busses
Is this can be cause im cuting many channels low freq arround 140hz to dont disturb bass and kick????
Is this can be i using bus in a bad way?
I use the vst channels output to 1/2 and send efx aroun -1db to the busses
my output busses stay kick at -10db and bass -11db no cliping very high volume...
Im compressing bot separetely...

My setup is

P4 3.0 HT 1mb L2 cache
512 ddr 400 dual channel
HD maxtor 120gb SATA
Audiophile 192
Behringer Truth 2031B monitors

Thank you very much for your help

i dont think the mid range u mention is about busses, compressing and stuff.
If u gonna go deeper work with your bass in lower frequencies.
Use two osc for the bass and pitch down of the two,to get the sub feel.
If u equilize/compress both on a bus u get things worst,
also check the basslines thread

you can put Waves RBass on your master Ch to get more low freq in your track without loosing your mix

and about your kick & bass you can do it like this

kick : cut 2 or 3 db in 250Hz

Bass : boost 2 or 3 db in 250Hz

this is a good technic to make your sound clear and good

I tend to find that to get the sense of a powerful bass.. Boost the eq on the kick at around 400Hz
The main bigges punch sensation is at around 400Hz... and with abit of e.q. ing at around 100Hz the kick will sound fat powerful and deep ...
Bass same thing, but be more precise with e.q...
But then this is only my advice for what I like, fiddle!           www.myspace.com/beat_nik

1.every kick&bass-set has its own frequences, I mix my subelements always different and indiviual, without freq-formulars, you have to find out where the edge is in every new set which contains new subelements.

formulars just try to explain mixing-technics as an exam ple for melting things together, but take care about the individual sound of an individual production with your ears, not with your eyes. it took me a long time to realise this, but it was the experience which made me mixing well.

2.

you cutted the low-frequences in many channels. this is the same as a boost in the mids and the highs. so the answer of your question why your sound has too many mids is solved.

too cut down low-frequences to make space for the subset (kick-bass) is a nice way to make a mix antiphasing and more transparent. but the problem is that you loose sub-reflections of your elements, and this causes a narrow drive and non-fatness of your sounds and at last the volume (because it was hidden in the sub-frequences).

3. search for the right balance, dont cut too hard. less mixing is better mixing! try to mix your sounds without lowcutting, only when realy necessary. use lowshelf too. and if the low-mid is phasing a bit, who cares? if it sounds good, its good. this is the only rule. mix with your ears.

good luck!

another thing, i dont know if anyone mention this yet, but:

- make sure your other sounds, like leads, are not bassy. you will need to EQ cut the bass out of these sounds. this will make your real bass more clear!!

actually you should not get all bass out leads and other instruments.. it kills your track/melody.... little bit of more "bass" is always ok if used with care and bass is compressed good.. hmm.. ill try again to make these things...

Very true pointers!

this is a big factor when it comes to a good sounding mix...

its a mistake i think we all have made, it just takes some insight or information to understand it...

we have to look at the mix in terms of dimensions..
and if we subtract we are actually adding somewhere else... its that fine balance that is hard to achieve.. but like you say, our ears can guide us (if we got good flat monitors)

thanks for sharing Mantik..
