I'm trying to change all the sounds I usually use while making psytrance.
For this one I used an arpegiated bass and some 303ish sounds. The track is currently a bit boring, specially in the percussion department
Tell me what you think, would help me a lot.

i would love to hear melody at 1:08.
raise up the percussion. some of your fx are disharmonic. you need more mid sounds at the mix. and more groove elements. why you don't use snare or clap?
i love the sounds you used hear. the bassline is good. but i think you raised up too much the low end of it or something. you can find better kick to your to your track. and there is work on the mix here.

Overall I def diged this song, listened to it a few times. And, since I always wich people would critizice my work, have spent some time anylizing what I would personally improve apon/tweak.

The kick was a bit weak (almost a goa kick), relative to the bass wich was much more powerful. The kick/bass relationship is one of the hardest to two to get to complement each other, since it can be a trade off between frequency and spacial position in the song (both of wich can conflict).

If the impact of intros/outro's matters to you, you need to spend way more time on this. Maybe try to give a taste of the song to come in the intro. An example, use a few sounds you only introduce at the peak of the song, or perhaps one word(with mad fx) of the phrase you use in the buildup later in the song, thus it foreshadows. Personally I like longer intro's (30s-1m) but thats personal taste. The end of you're song ended abruptly, try either using effects to phase it out (like an explosion or dive), or slowly reduce layers towars the final few bars of the song. Also droping down layers at the end makes it easier to mix, from a dj standpoint.

The use of detune in your sounds/melody was for the most part quite effective in creating resolutionary effect, wich can be really hard (props!). However there were just a few that stood out, and just didnt fit, perhaps re-pitch, or substitute the sounds. Unless of course you wanted this contrast.

The leads were orchestrated effectively, as in the layers complemented each other in an interesting and coherent way. It also entailed good progression and variations that matched the changes in the bass well. And kept my attention for almost the whole song (wich is a very sincere compliment since I am attention deficite disorder, lol). The end did drag on a bit. Continual melody is nice, I love this style of music but seems to give me a more prog/goa feel from your song (goa top, with a fullon psy trance bottem).

Your main build was good, nice voice clip, good transfer, and sufficient changes in the song structure after the drop. However fullon typically has plenty of "sub-builds", that is progressionary effects/fills every 8/16/32/64 beats/bars, whatever. These help carry through, and slam the song into the changes of the next segment. Also, using lots of sub-build effects can take away from the need to use percussive variations to instigate progression (although it never hurts). I've heard dope psy with absolutely basic percussions loop(kick,hat,snare,hat);. And although dubstep isnt my favourite genre ive heard songs that only have kick and snare, no other percussions!!, and still effectively created groove for the song. Percussions are merely a 'role' that can be substituted or combined with other types of sounds.

Perhaps try emphesizing more 'one-shot' leads/fx before entering continual melodic components, this is how fullon creates power and groove. The 'one-shots' can easily follow/match fast changing patterns (percussive or other) in the song, allowing for more variation and progressionary techniques. It's nitpicky sampling work but definietly has benifits.

As for your fullon sounds and 'one-shots', I could hear them in the background, they just need more introduction and emphesis. Also they need to be more coherently syncronized with the percussion patterns (but you said yourself this was lacking). There were some nice a unique/original sounds going on there, and also some well done classic sounds.

Heres a profound reason I've found its better to start with only one-shot sounds (or less layers), and void the continual synths
melodies/seq/pad/gates etc untill later or the peak of the song;

You started right off the bat with harmonic lead notes, wich isnt necissarily a bad thing=> bUT! There was this study i read in new scientist concerning an auditory illusion effect. A recording of "I am going to the zoo" had random chunks taken out (like a random gate), the listener could not make out the sentence, it was completely inaudible. But after hearing the original (unchoped) recording, every time he heard the choped version afterwards he could make it out. The brain recreates/fills in the spaces once it has been exposed to the initial information. Anyways the idea is, since lead notes blur things out a bit, If you start off with a segement that slowly introduces the percussion, hits/stabs (this is where on-shots come in), then when you do build into the melodic component, not only have you created more progression, allowed the melody to be played longer withought becoming repetitive, the notable effect is the listener now perceives the underlying layers at the peak (the peak, or other areas where theres lots going on) of the song more audibly/distinctly.

Im sorry if my rant bored or offended you. Even though theres LOTS you could have improved on (this is fickle because everything can always be improved)
I wouldnt have spend so much time articulating a response if the sound hadn't touched me at the level of my psych.

If theres one peice of adice you heed from all this RANT, it would be keep up the good work!

@Chichke: totally agree on the things you said about the kick / percussion. The disharmonic fx were on purpose though and I like them that way

@waffleberry: thx for so many nice tips, specially the ones about song structuring and disharmonic sounds / fx, really cool.

Definetly going to finish this track when I have time and inspiration

updated version with some new leads and instruments, new percussive work, diferent kicks and basslines, etc
Now making an intro and a melody lead for the end.. after this it should be finished
