I was wondering if any of you guys could help me with this. I'm trying to make a part of my track sound like a record slowing down. I want all the sounds to slow down until it stops. I need some advice as to how I can do this. Any ideas?

pitch shifting is what u want... ofcourse... tempo automation won't change ur audio, just speed up or slow down the track that contains the sample. timestretching is to stretch it without pitching (which is not what a record player does). Pitch shifting is the way...

There's lots of ways... I only know the ones in SX v2.2 though

Last time I did something like this I used Ableton Live. It's possibly the most complicated way of doing it but you get very good results:

Individually export each sound that you want to slow down, over the period that you want it to slow down over. For example, if you want to make it sound like the record slows down over 8 bars, export 8 bars-worth of each sound. If you want to put the slowed-down version of each sound back on the same track it came from, export from the audio track or VSTi output (rather than the main outputs) with all inserts bypassed, otherwise you will need a new track for each processed sound to keep the mix the same over the slowdown.

Import these sound files into the Ableton arrange page on separate tracks so that this section of your tune now plays back in Ableton. Now set up a tempo ramp in the arrange page which lasts for eg. 8 bars. The ramp should start at the tempo of your track and go down as low as is possible. Make a note of the lowest bpm the tempo ramp gets to.

At this point you should have a section of your track in Ableton that sounds a bit like a record slowing down. Now you can tweak exactly how you want it to sound, using the Warp settings for each clip. 'Repitch' will make each sound pitch down as it slows down and will get you closer to an actual record slowing down; the other warp modes will keep the pitch the same but will need tweaking to get the best quality - this is why I suggested you exported each sound individually as warping a whole mix is less accurate-sounding than warping each element separately.

Once you have the slowdown to your satisfaction, solo each Ableton track and render it separately. It's vital to make sure your left and right locators are set correctly at this point otherwise things will go out of sync when you re-import these rendered files back into SX - which is the next step. If you exported them initially without inserts or send FX, you can re-import them onto the same tracks, keeping your arrange window nice and tidy.

Once you've imported the slowed-down audio files into SX, you'll need to set up a tempo ramp in SX that covers the same number of BARS that you exported initially, and reaches exactly the same lowest tempo that you used in Ableton. Doing this will keep the bar-lines in SX matching the actual bars you hear (although it won't be 100% accurate) and will allow you to pick up where they end at the new tempo if you so desire.

Um...

It's a bit long-winded but it works really very well indeed, and gives you a lot of flexibility over how each indivitual sound is affected as it slows down; you can have the percussion staying at the same pitch but the melodic elements getting lower and lower as it slows down, for example.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

why not just render it all to audio and then bend the pitch of that one sample with automation? Why so difficult? Is there something wrong with my way of doing it or did i misunderstand something?

Nothing wrong with that at all! It all depends on what you want to do. You way certainly is quicker, and would sound perfect for a basic 'record stop sound. It's just less flexible and means you have to get the mix perfect before you do it, otherwise you'll hear the join.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Depends on how you work ... for me tempo auto has worked great when i need to achieve this effect.
Export the track as wav -> load it into a fruity sampler (NOT as audio track) -> so when tempo is moving down pich is moving down too ...
Anyway there are more than plenty of ways to do this so ... you choose what suits you best
