oohohohoho what a MARVELOUS topic!
our friend here wants to go to HOLLYWOOD or What?
why the hell u'll need a Skazi bass? do u know that the trak that he suministered to the studio sounded fairly diferent than the mastered version?? so to achieve exactly this bass or whatever other bass on a good mastered CD is far beyond tweaking whatever knob on a software synth (probably pirated also ) here u can get maybe one milion of advices but u'll never achieve the fattest bass on a mastered cds. and is not from lack of experience, its from lack of Hardware!! (and exeprience ehehe )
BUT!
U still can achieve a fat, rolling, bouncing, fullonish bass if u just take your time and begin to read CAREFULLY everything that regards bass creations, u can find on this section here.
My advice (and dont take it seriously, eheheh) is to use a synth for the bass and not a sample, second; use the simplest possible synth (from the good ones of course eheeh) so that u can save CPU also. but the main trik of making a good fat bass (not ASS) is more in the effects u put on your bass channel. The classical advice is:
Use some of the folowing softsynths:
ES1 - Logic Audio
Junglist
Scorpion
Muon Tau
Bass station
(u can use vanguard, albino, zeta, pentagon, discovery etc etc but they are a way hevier on the CPU usage...)
Than on your Bass - Channle try to put this thingies in this order:
RBASS (the most important!!!)
EQ (if necesary, in most cases, yes)
X-HUM from WAVES (this is to cut off the very subbas freq between 0-20,30Hz, that later will mess a lot your mixdown)
Compressor (if nesecary and also if u want to side-chain your bass with the kik)
The X-Hum is really the TIP OF THE YEAR from me, posted by TSABEAT.
This "classical" con figuration will help u tho Build Up, better say to SCULPT your fat, rolling, fullonish bass. But what matters are the setting u'll apply on every component.
So my advice is:
look for all the post around here by COLIN OOD, TSABEAT, MIKE A, UNDERTOW, XABBU, etc etc etc cuz u'll learn a lot. and dont expect to achieve this in one night...
Luck!
P.S. why i said MARVELOUS topic in the begining?? cuz thanks to this guy here, I've installed the ZETA and WOW!!! its a very GOOD synth though!!!!! it fills the spectrum very well, very transaprent sound!!!! exelent!!! and is apropiate fro much more thing than just building up a bass line...

I didn't see any words on this thread, all I saw was some kid walk out kinda walking in circles, looking around, and then all of a sudden people started jumping out, left hook across the face, kicked in the nuts, and then someone spit on his head too. All the while putting pamphlets for self help in his pockets...whoa!

psylevation: I saw a guy come into a forum with many people that have made/are making the effort to learn how to make electronic music. He asked if someone could tell him how to make a track by clicking on one button so he could stand on that stage in front of his laptop waving his arms. The people that made the effort got a bit pissed off and shouted at him.
Hopefully he has learned that anything worth while isn't free in life and that if he doesn't make an effort to help himself, no one will.
Call it tough love.

Very good point UnderTow, I hope he has learned as well, I know I sure as hell have been working my ass off for many years, through pain, and strife, and good times as well, but hard non the less.
There have been times that I wished there was just a button, but then I realized how am I ever going to continue to make music afterwards, or how am I going to really be able to stand out, or do something that is really a representation of what I feel in my heart. I figured that the only way to do that is through ALOT of hard work and dedication to what I love, and love to do. |

I have reached, once, 8 hours in front of my screen in a row, tryin to find what went wrong with the "click" sound on my kick!....So don tell me that i want "fixed" stuff or sounds....I like Skazi Bass sound and i am TRYIN, first of all, by MYSELF to make a similar one, and then with someone's elses help....Except from all of that, one of the things that forum exist, is 4 givin, to ppl, the opportunity to collaborate by exchanging helpful tips about sth! Is this bad too?

I wouldent use X-Hum i would go with "Voxengo BMS" and roll off at 50hz.
with really good monitors or headphones, you can hear that the x-hum adds some kind of pipe like sound. also i wouldent use R-bass its too muddy, Use the voxengo LFpunch or if you bass sound really lacks Low freq, use the voxengo LF-Maxm, this plug actually generates bass freq that you dont have.
anyway i would recommand the voxengo plugins over waves any day. Voxengo have extreamly realistic analog sound. also the voxengo compressors kick "waves" ass in away you cant believe.
you can download some demos from www.voxengo.com
heres a real Tip - DONT USE R-BASS OR MAXXBASS unless you have a sub in your studio or you a pro that understands somethings about low freq.
most of the fullon basslines have nothing under 60hz thats the space for the kick.

desp...
i give opinion, not recepies.
if u use rbass with intensity lowered to -7, -12 db or even -20db and also if u lower the gain, the rbass is jsut a marvelous tool to give warmth to your bass. also it affects just the freqs u say. best is between 70 and 100hz depending on the bass. also x-hum.. dont use it as a equalizer. jsut put it and u'll see how it acts almost as a brikwall highpass filter. also.. it acts (the highpass) between 0hz and 100hz. use the X-HUM just with its highpass filter. nothing more, dont use its equalizer cuz it has other special meaning . and yes!!! I understood the diference between a bass with and without x-hum exactly in a studio equipment. anyway i'll try this voxengo bms to see if it has the same potent of lowering the frequencies. a spectrum analizers tells everything one needs
and broder.. if we are going to fight which plugins label is better ehehehehehe beter dont start.
voxengo is good but TOO MUCH CPU consuming too much GUI in them. so i recomend in this case: ELEMENTAL plugins or SONALKSIS plugins.
also, lately ppl speak good about WAVEART plugins also...
What i put is just an example of a structure brooder. forget about the firms. what i talk is:
Put first a small bass enhancer, but play slightly with it, u do this to boost some special frequencies (between 70 and 100) on an harmonic way. could be maxbass, bassmaximizer, rbas, whatever shit u like.
than put an EQ, to form your bass further, and one more time, PLAY Carefully with it. there is a tip. very nice one. from TSABEAT. try to lower the freqs between 130hz-150hz and your bass will become as fat as an elephant.
than put the strongest highpass filter (in this case x-hum is the strongest i've met) u can see what it makes if u use some spectrum analizers.
thus u're becoming to Sculpt already your bass. if u use, voxengo, sonalksis or whatever other shit.. it doesent matter dude cuz its all DIGITAL SHIT!!!! its not analogical!!! so.. voxengo or waves.. elementalor sanlksis.. its pretty the same, and always the digital sound will be more flat, mettalik and with lak of dinamics than the analog one. so?
i gave the bro just an example of bass-channel structure. what software u use is a matter i see of what GUI cought more your atention eheheheheh.
one quastion?
desp. u think the senhaizer HD 25-1 are suficient enough to apreciate what ones is doing???
good day

If you don't like to spend hours and days and months tweaking untill you have the right sound, YOU SHOULD NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO MAKE PSYTRANCE. This isn't for you. This isn't your calling.
Sheesh ...

I suggest you don't "find" Vanguard and just buy it at: http://www.refx.net/
At £66.85 it's well worth the low asking price. There's no excuse to not purchase good plugins at this price, you owe it to yourself if you are going consider yourself professional.
support Re-Fx and Vanguard, it's given alot to the psy trance scene. |
