Yesterday i tried to make effects in fruity loops for breaks etc, i would like to share what i found out.
At first create a channel with an effect created on a vst instrument ( maybe put delay on it.
export as wav and import it again to a sampler channel where you maybe timestretch and manipulate it so it sounds longer. Now with the original vst instrument change the synth slightly to create a new interesting effect with the 2 sounds playing together.
I also found out it´s nice to have a another effect sound afterward the first one which has a filter envelope ( cut off) which opens the sounds. My main problem was to make an effect sounds which stops instant.Instead my effect sounds kind of faded out slowly which i don´t want .Do you have any ideas on how you could make effect sounds ? Please share. |

example:
sound to:
efxch.1: phaser, eq with attenuation on certain frequencies, reverb, panned hard to the right
efxch. 2: delay, eq on other freq., no reverb, panned hard to the left.
-> bounce sound.
This can be as clear or unclear sounding as you please.

if you have access to a granular delay effect (which you do: http://koen.smartelectronix.com/KTGranulator/ ), a nice 2-beat effect for breaks sometimes is as follows:
0. make 2 send channels, [A] for a reverb unit ( %100 wet ) that has its output going to both the master output and send [B]. now, make [B] for the KTGranulator or any kind of granular delay set at %100 wet, pitch at +6 =), delay time of a quarter note for starters, feedback around %40. granular delay plugs frequently have options like "spray" or "Time Dispersion". these faders are a lot of fun to move back and forth, but we will not need them for this effect. Also, we need a parametric eq or at least a high pass filter on this second send, which has its output going (eventually) to the master bus.
1. write a snappy kick part =) this only works with interesting syncopation during the 2 beats in question. Also, pitch and hard pan the kicks that occur during the 2 beat break. if there are two kicks in the two beats, say in a dotted eighth note rhythm, pitch the first up 4 semitones and pan it all the way to one side, then pitch the other one up 7 semitones and pan it hard to the other side.
2. During the 2 beats, automate up the send [A] level on your kick channel to as high as is appropriate. when the break is over, automate the send [A] level back to lowest available value, usually represented as - infinity.
That's it, but here's a more classic, easier-to-do 1-beat break that doesn't necessarily require a zazzy kick part. First, solo your kick channel (which should be no hotter than -8db) and render one beat. now, place that one-beat sample in a fresh audio channel with it's fader at 0db and no fx. Also, you should place the sample where you want your break to be.
Now, copy the first 16th note of the sample and paste it into the last 2 16th notes of the beat.
When you're done, copy the first 32nd note of the sample and copy it into the next 3 32th notes of the beat. turn the first two 32th notes down 5db, the next two 9db.
now reverse the third sixteenth note of the beat (which is the first sixteenth note sample in the break) and turn it down 12db. turn the last 16th note down 7db.
Now, just kill all the other channels during that beat, and you're good to go with a nice, simple break.

word, this setup is indeed very versatile. I forgot to mention that if you do this exactly as above you will need to QUICKLY fade out the ends of each cut to avoid unwanted clicks.
i always have a couple of these send/bus/send combos around my mixes for making ridiculous effect chains. It's fun.

No you got one sound in two samplers. Send each (identical) sound 100% to each dedicated efxchannel. That means you got the same sound sounding slightly different on each side. Simple trick but does the trick
