i think u could use a chord with minor 3rd on something like the vanguard with detuned saw waves for that wide chorus effect....yes its a bit euro german trance JP8000 stylee no?
a bit gayey but really dramatic! or is that trendy?
play around with the decay and release of both amp and filter ....probably a lowpass/highpass as this sound needs to be quite full.
probably the professional (trendy) finsh you require will come from some reverb. this will really help to emphasise the stab effect, in fact it may be worth cutting the release from the amp and keeping the decay quite short and having a dense reverb tail instead...thats it. the vanguard reverb is quite good for this and increasing the width will make it biggg.
i sppose eq and compression after to help it sit.
the attack could be bolstered by percussion parts underneath.

It sounds like your talking about those very detuned clubby stabs that for example Gaudium uses, but i think dma wants something else, not?

Being that I am very much into House Music I'm also after these type of retro stabs. I have found that most of the stabs I like are actually Synth Brass patches that are usually played with the modwheel effecting the pitch. I think the FM-7 and Pro-53 are two great synths for these type of sounds. Here is something I just did using these two synths: http://s50.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=2JML4MMKNJYJN25EPTY5Z82WA7
I am not sure exactly on what sound your after as the audio example link is dead. Let me know if these are the sounds you are after.
