Does anyone know anything about what happened re: the Transolar festival?

Some friends were due to play - but then everything went very quiet and everyone assumed it was off - but nobody ever found out what had gone on. The various theories doing the rounds were

Was it all a scam?
Was it just an amateur orgainser who got out of their depth?
Or did they get scupered by other promoters/ the CIA/ insert paranoia organsiation of choice...

Any info would be welcome.

hey john
i was due to play as well, the fuker just dissapeared - the things is i dont know if it was a scam - because he (yogi) had flyers posters promotion going off - which i know do's not cost alot but it still costs. It was around the time that Vortex announced their party that things went quiet, then i heard things like the telephone lines had been nicked which i have been told do's happen down SA, and this also happened when i was first in contact with him and he dissapeared while his lines were replaced - i sort of think it was a scam because (and i promote parties as well) i dont think there is anything wrong with saying to artists and everyone that things have gone tits up - no ticket sales etc.. we have had to cancel the festival - shit happens and that - but to just dissapear is fukin shit - leaving people wondering whats going on and never finding out. Dont think we will ever find out! - however - how much of a trance head he was i dont know - did you see his advert in the magazines round the UK - 3 lions sitting on some grass - dont get me wrong they were very cute but it made alot of people wonder - had he ever put on a party before?
anyway hope you didn't lose anything

It did all seem very strange - I had an email from Yogi very early on (my emails on a lot of websites due to doing publicity for Planet Zogg) plugging the plans for the festival with ticket price at about $250 or $300 - we had a bit of an exchnage as I just didn't think people would pay that (no matter what the line up) esp in SA. The tix did come down in price - but to $200 - still alot of cash (lots of UK eclipse festivals got stung charging that in 99 with really good line ups)

Also Yogi basically asked "who wants to play?". I'm sure there were a lot of good DJs - but there were not many famous ones. With doing flyers - I tend to be a bit anal about DJs and whose playing where & I'd never heard of most of them! So why would folk pay $200 when they can go and hear pople they've heard of down the road?

The ad was very strange as well - I write the odd thing for Upfront - one of mags it was in & Hils the editor (who is Sol Rays girlfriend) was completely bemused by it!

Fortunately every I knew who was going to DJ had either not made arrangement until they knew for sure - (as most psy-trance fetsivals can be a bit slack when it comes to travel arranagments!). Although one friend just going along to the festival had bought a palne ticket but managed to cancel their ticket and only lose their deposit.

ah well - you live & learn -a nd not one south african I've come across has ever heard of it (as this exchange between 2 UK folk on the SA board shows!!)

BTW what parties do you promote?

cheers

John
