hey guys...
have any of you noticed that:
a) the price of the tickets for the transolar festival is an arm and a leg by south african standards (R2200 or about US$200)?
b) the festival is happening in the same area, and immediately before the party organised by the southafrica2000/etnicanet crew? both parties are happening near the krugerpark, and the transolar party is from 1-4 december, while the SA2000 party starts on 4 december.
anyways...the cost of the tickets is way out of reach of 99% of local tranceheads (tickets for festivals around SA usually cost about R300-R400...which is about US$35)...so is this party just a scheme to cash in on all the overseas visitors who will be in the krugerpark area at that time? i don't want to make any wild accusations or anything, but the cost of the tickets, as well as the wording on the website ('we make it easy and affordable'), make me think that is the case!
by the way...the transolar festival is listed on the website most trancefreaks over here in the UK use to find parties (www.accessallareas.org), while there is no mention of the etnicanet party.
i must say, the lineup for the transolar festival looks decent..but my money is on the etnicanet party being awesome. The lineup includes:
Antaro (spiritzone)
Anti (spiraltrax)
Dhya (droidlock, snug as a bug, etc)
Dino Psaras (atomic)
Dimitri (tipworld)
FrankE (koxbox)
Matt Mushroom (mushroom magazine)
Max Lanfranconi (etnicanet, spiritzone)
Mickey Dread (mushroom mafia)
Simon Posford (need i say more??!)
Tristan (twisted)
Tsuyoshi

Unfortunately, neither Simon Posford nor Tsuyoshi Suzuki will be doing anything at the Vortex 2002 Solar Trance Festival party....
The official line-up(at the moment) is at on the Vortex thread.
Have a look....
it still looks like it's gonna be an awesome party... and i'll definitely put on my stomping shoes and make a trip up to the Kruger!!!!
Peace! |

200 bucks is a stupid amount of money to pay for a festival. can anyone explain to me why the two parties are so different in price?

Well...
My opinion is that the Transolar Festival is being organised by an people outside South Africa.. while the Vortex party is being organised by local people.
The people from overseas can charge R2000 for the party because most of the people who are going to land up at the party will be foreigners looking for a good party.
The vortex guys will focus mainly on the local market and therefore would want to charge a reasonable price.
That's my opinion.
Ain't fact. |

Being an overseas visitor myself I would never pay 200 bucks for a party, even if it had every trance act in the world....coupled with the fact that apart from the Phantasm crew, the line up is a little lacking in comparison to the price.
but still i don't want to bitch too much, if i travel to south africa for this (which i hope to) Vortex is the one for me....

Apsydorp, the updated lineup for the Vortex does include Simon Posford... but no sign of Tsuyoshi Suzuki... beware that I heard that non-SA residents will be required to pay a different price, but my guess is that it will be in any case lower than the Transolar festival (who needs swimming pools anyway? sprinklers will do just fine!). Peace out.

Oh definitely......
The Vortex party will be considerably cheaper than the Transolar Festival.
Non-SA residents will probably have to pay a little more for tickets as well.
Looking at the line-ups for both parties I'd have to side with the Vortex crew on this one.......
Etnica.... Koxbox.... Infected Mushroom.. Tortured Brain..... Simon Posford.... and those are only a few.....
I'm gonna try to get to both parties.... if I can.
Peace!

I will support local talent, of which there will be a greater supply at Vortex... besides no offense but the Transolar looks a bit cheesy... I'm more bent on primitive parties with minimal facilities, they're way more fun! Also it will be cool to welcome the CT community in this part of the country to prove that Jhb stomps as much as CT!

Excellent!!!!
Yeah ... that's what I'm talking about!!!
Low prices and better fun!
Apparently the Vortex party is going to be R480 for South African residents (you need to produce your ID or drivers license when purchasing ticket).
I'm pretty sure that is fact.
I'm all for supporting local talent....as well..!!
espectially the Timecode guys....
Did you catch Damage when they came up to Joburg MarcoJHB?
Peace! |

I couldn't make it that week end in Joburg, but I was in Cape Town for the Timecode CD launch in May... what an awesome party! Traditionally I'm not a big fan of indoor parties, but that was a wicked one! They rocked and everyone seemed to be having a gr8 stomp (including me!).
Party on!
