The time has come to say goodbye. TranceTrax is closing down. So here are few words from the owner;

Two years passed since I opened TranceTrax. Not sure how many of you realize that TranceTrax was opened because I truly love the goa sound. It was a hobby, it was never meant to be "about money" but purely to bring the sound to the masses. Some of you who have been in the business know that it was not about money but fun and love for the music. TranceTrax has been operated solely by one person and only 2 hours a day (plus few hours on weekends) for two full years. It has been very successful and also a great learning experience about the music industry and e-commerce. One of my goals was to really care about the customer. You rarely see this in any business; large or small. I've given away 100s of CDs to make YOU the customer happy whether it was my fault or not. I have not seen any other shop EVER do that and yes I have purchased from ALL OF THEM before I opened trancetrax.

Here are some stats (from middle of March until today, don't have anything prior to that as we changed stats companies):

Report for: http://www.trancetrax.com
Date Range: 03/15/2003 - 8/27/2003

Traffic Summary
Total Sessions 113,747
Total Pageviews 882,989
Total Hits 4,279,906
Total Bytes Transferred 48.60GB

Average Sessions Per Day 661.31
Average Pageviews Per Day 5,133.65
Average Hits Per Day 24,883.17
Average Bytes Transferred Per Day 289.36MB

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So where do we go from here? As I mentioned earlier TranceTrax has been my side project and I did it all for fun. I'd like someone who enjoys the sound to take over and continue TranceTrax. It will not take much to do so (money wise), I am not looking to get rich (I have a job).

The web site will stay online for 30 days while I try to sell what is left in the inventory. After 30 days the site will be taken off-line and no more orders will be accepted. If theare is anyone interested in buying the site (complete with samples for over 1000 CDs, scanned covers, inventory, multiple domain names etc) please contact me during this 30 day period, after which I will no longer be reachable.

At the end I'd like to thank everyone who has supported TranceTrax from the beginning. Your business has always been greatly appreciated. I've met many awesome people in person and over the wires over the last 2 years thanks to this music! Huggs to ya'll!

TranceTrax forever!!!

Farewell.

that's too bad... they had good deals sometimes... i remember seeing hallucinogen for under $10. I suppose with bigger companies like psyshop and saikosounds, smaller companies get blown out of the water. this is the nature of our economic system, now to post an opinion whether that's good or bad, is your personal prefrence.

I'm not sure if he is selling the place because he wasn't doing well. He's definetly not saying that. Maybe it got too big and he is trying to give it up to someone who has more time to run it?

If he got 25,000 hits per day he must have been doing something right.

Buying from Psyshop or Saikosounds is like 25% more for people from the US. I hope someone smart takes over and continues to be as fair and easy to work with.

It took alot of work and $$$ to get those hits. I spent ALOT of money on promoting/advertising the site on all major search engines and in magazines (those cost a TON!!!)

Btw when I started working on positioning the site in the top results on most search engines no other psy trance shop did it. Only after 2 years did I start seeing other "larger" overseas shops pay for click-thru referrals. It gave me that extra boost from people who normally would not know where to buy our music or just bought it because they wanted to hear this "goa sound".

So I really feel it would be a shame to get all this work wasted. Basically the traffic is there and it will disappear when the site goes down. This is just an assumption but I believe many people used my site as a resource; to see the cover art, track listings and listen to short samples but not necessarily buy anything.

I could no longer dedicate the time to run the store. It really could have used a 2nd person; a music buyer whose sole job would be to track down all new releases and buy them directly from the labels as Saikosounds does it. I did not have the time and had to pay a premium on all releases when purchasing from a distributor.
Over the last 3 months I have received THE MOST emails from labels asking to buy directly from them instead of distributors. Before it was nearly impossible to do this. Most labels would refer us to a distributor (except a few). That is no longer the case. I am sure the economy had a big play in them wanting to sell directly.

I want to help!!! I have much experience running various businesses and always wanted to venture into a psytrance business (an oxymoron?). Yes, I want to do it because I LOVE the music, not to make money! That should be obvious, since there are definitely more profitable opportunities elsewhere.
One problem- I am in Japan... But the market here is the largest in the world, and I want to offer my help and expertise to someone wanting to head the operations in the States... consider me your Japan liason!
Let me know anyone else who is interested... let's make this happen!!!

Does anyone know where all the records went? Who bought them? This sucks, like it was not hard and expensive enough to get psy CDs in the US before. Now this...           my cat is deathly afraid of aluminum foil

Crap looks like I read this too late. My partner and I were seriously talking about doing this and would have taken over trancetrax in a minute. North America needs a good online shop. I mean psyshop is great, but it would be good to know we were supporting a local trance lover.

Well, we do have one: http://www.chaosexistence.net

But they are slow to get releases.

I'm sure you could try to contact the trancetrax guy if you are still interested. He has nothing to lose by selling the store site.
