Something that does not exist in full on

Hehehe, that's pretty funny.
I'll have to agree. Most full on these days is just a rolling bassline with a few other effects thrown in the mix.
I don't know if I've matured as a listener or what but I am very selective in what I listen to these days. And off the record, I think Androcell's Efflorescence is probably more psychedelic than most psytrance released today. But that is just my opinion. |

you know, my personal opinion used to be that psy was where its at but today honestly i feel that both old-school and prog psy have their advantages and disadvantages in terms of sound and what they do to me (so this is my personal opinion obviously). i still love eskimo and GMS and old school infected mushroom but nothing does it for me like some good paul van dyk or something along those lines (but pvd is my fav). i have gone in and out of phases between the two genres we're discussing here and old-school always has me coming back feeling more of the emotion. in terms of production i think they both induce very different work flows for me and in the end i think its up to the listener to decide what sounds best. as a listener, the old-school is just where my heart is though and i was just curious what others were thinking...so thanks to those who posted!

(Mostly into trance, but into psy as well..)
In my opinion, the arguments against trance here are like the people who dislike full-on saying "full-on sucks, therefore all psy sucks".
Trance isn't what it was six years ago, there are many directions within trance, and it does change.
trance - the music everybody loves to hate? |

No, not an acronym. Just three random letters from my email address. |

I'm totally confused at what all those other genres other than Psy-trance, Full on Psy-trance, Progressive Trance, Goa-trance are.
i.e. What on earth is:
Trance
Hard Dance (and does this differ from)
Hard House
Techno
Electro
??
I mean I'm out in the street, some PR hands me a flyer which tells me nothing about what kind of music they are playing. I ask and they give an answer like "Trance" or "Techno" and I'll waste a night in a sh*t club listening to sh*t music I don't like through a sh*t sound system where they think twanking up the bass so it's clipping enhances the experience.
Oh well, something good came out of my complaining about this in a bar the other night The promoter happened to be a bit of a fan of Infected Mushroom and GMS. He offered me a night so I guess I'll have to learn to DJ lol

Just like with psytrance or any other genre most "regular" trance is shit, but there are definately some good tracks out there. I haven't really listened to any trance from the later years though. It seems to just get worse and worse. Kinda like with psy... In fact I barely listen to any new music nowadays. Guess it's just me, and/or the fact that it's hard to find new music when you don't know where to look. Lately I've been digging the old dance classics from the early 90's like 2 brothers on the 4th floor, dr. alban and whatnot. Really takes me back! Cheese is delicious |

I just say "trance" because everyone I talk to about it knows I mean psytrance. If I need to make a distinction I refer to "regular" trance as "vanilla trance". Vanilla is tasty sometimes though... Listen to some Nostrum and you will understand.

I like all kinds of music and liste to many genres, like 11 ones are popping in my head right now lol,
but goa is on top that is true,
but for me the best music of every genre can be good,
and I like regular trance,
like for example I listen a lot to paul oakenfoald his trance mixes,
I think there pretty good (he has goa mixes old ones too I know)
so
but I don't like tiesto, not because it's tiesto,
I just don't like his music, listened to it gave it a try but it's not my cup of tea...

very true...heard couple of old tracks of oakenfold recnetly...and they r really good...as for trance vs psytrance thingy....
theres no point in comparing the two...as for someone who said tiesto's got more soul thn fullon...i guess u really shld reconsider tht statement..with no offence to any1...True psylovers will always love psytrance...!
BOOM!

I think that "trance" or "Euro-Trance" is no more. It's a dead genre. Know why? Because "psy-trance" and "Full-On" has stolen it's place.
Easy answer, but I think it's true.

I think it's grow up time. I heard shit psy trance, I've heard some great trance. Psy trance is my favourite because it's a unifacation of all my favourite musical influences. So it's personal to ME! Other people do exist. When I go to psy parties in london there are loads of people on pills sniffing poppers, being quite scarey. I accept that as one part of the scene, although I know it's not what the scene is all about. It works both ways. Especially as a lot of full on psy these days is pretty much like hard trance. |

To be honest I would say that events that do not billboard the actual music but rely in the coolness factor... Like a meetup with some likeminded ppl with some crazy artistic tendencies that fuse in some kind event were a human ancient tribal ritual is re-enacted and ppl interact in the process creating art, dancing, providing food, music, good times, knowledge. As long as everyone believe in what they do and do not follow some conditioned labelled and retrictive notion on how everything has to be... and then the event will not be semantically boxes in everyone of its single dimensions. Expect the unexpected, be creative and go wild intead of talk in this parlament of the world on how to define our communication. Call it a meetup so the event is bigger than all its part, because it is really what makes all this happen. YOu can say meetup music... Maybe I am on crack, but I more and more believe this. |
