Just wanted to ask if there is a major difference in the fees that the 2 different types of artists receive to get booked.
I see Boom has many of the chill artists that can be referred to as major chill acts like carbon based, bluetech, h.u.v.a, abakus, aes dana.
people at the festival section is blaming the organizers for not booking major artists that require more money. so is there a real gap between the fee's demanded?           `Bottomless wonders spring from simple rules, which are repeated without end` Mandelbrot

I wouldnt say the Boom chill out line up is particularly full of big names... thats not to say it wont be good - but its not really an "all star" line up. Though have to put in a plug for Unity Dub & Chillage People who are superstars of course .. and er.. live round the corner from me

In relation to fees - apart from Shpongle & the Orb - i dont think there are many chill out artists who can command a big fee - people pay money to see the big dance acts - not the chill out ones & so promoters pay accordingly.

But Boom is about far more than the music... and dont anyone say - thats just as well!

Maybe the icon doesnt work too well...

The Chillage People & Unity Dub are most definately super stars in Sheffield.. well maybe not.. but as they live near me - I have to Big Them Up a bit!

The Chillage People have been going for a six or seven years - they've played alot of UK festivals & clubs & played at Boom in 2002. If you've ever heard Unity Dubs CD on LSD - they're responsible for the Dr Whoo tune (which they were doing years before Orbital!) - though normally they sound more like Tangerine Dream and have some stuff coming out on the people who are doing the chill out stage at Boom's new label.

Strangely enough - the girl who used to do their visuals used to call herself Asura until she disocvered it was used by someone else... (Asura obvioulsy..) its a small world etc...

the disparity between fees for dance acts and chillout acts is something we've been trying to address in san francisco. one method is by throwing as many all-chill parties as possible, instead of relegating the chillout music to the back room.

I commend you for such endeavors! Wish I could make it up there for Solar Fields.

Has anyone in the UK been to the Synergy parties? I went to one about a year ago which was more like an indoor festival than a trance night with bands, performance, helaing etc & they had two large chillout areas with really good line ups- probably as much of a draw as the main trance room.

Shame more parties dont do that.

Well the Boom festival is in my eyes a big failure this time. They refuse to pay the chill artists almost anything but at the same time have a high entrance fee and pay big fees to the dancefloor artists/DJ's... a insult in my opinion. I myself said no thanks to play there. I dont want to support a festival that underpay chill artists.
