There is a sound style I really fell in love with. I have heard this tecnique a few times earlier the past years, but refreshed my memories not too logn ago when I heard "Gouryella - Tenshi".

On this video:

if you move to about 3:45, you will hear a few non-tuneish sounds. Is there any way to get these sounds somehow? Maybe a soundpack, or a VST? Im working in FL Studio mostly.

It sounds to me like a TB303 clone, try the acid sounds in sytrus if you are in FLstudio. Use low octave and high resonance values.

But is overused, don't do it. (JK)

hmm.. maybe, if you put on some effect. I got a better example, but turns out my usual mp3 upload page is not working right now. But if you should happen to have played Stepmania 4, the background music there makes an even better example. Ill try again tomorrow with an mp3.

use sytrus , preset: Conqueror

or you can make your own on TS 404, but it might be a little bit complicated.

Hmm, I can kinda hear the 303 but I think it sounds more like a hard-sync'ed oscillator with lots of pitch modulation on it or something similar like an FM matrix, then with a bunch of flange and stuff.

Kind of reminds me of the old toxic2 vst. I really preferred the layout over the newer renditions of it and it was good for FM. Not the greatest synth but could do some things very nicely.

sounds like it might be a distorted 303 with flange or phase

I might be way out in left field with this but I really don't think it is a 303.

The more I listen to it I don't think it sounds anything like a 303, what are you guys talking about! I want someone to make this sound with a 303 and show it to me because I think one would be hard pressed to do it, at most it might be similar but would lack many aspects of this sound.

You can clearly hear, on each note played, that it decays from a high number of transients to a low number. It is kind of like a "harmonic decay" except not exactly, transient decay is more correct. How do you achive that in a 303, or for that matter any synth without FM or Sync capabilities?

It is definitely the sound of a 303. But it is with a fx of some sort. Porbably delayish, chorusy or flangy as has been said before.

If it needs all those FX how are you so sure its a 303?

Either way I will ask just to settle it but I think that type of sound is far more characteristic of FM, and a lot easier to make with FM than trying to pile the FX on something else.

Well I asked him; waiting for a reply. When i listened to the version on his page it seemed a bit clearer and I heard something that IS characteristic of a 303. It has that kind of "boink" slide as it quickly goes from a low note to a high one.

But this has nearly worked me into a frenzy! This is a sound I have always liked and I heave heard it come out of my FM soft-synths so often! My goal now is to try and make that with a 303 clone. I tried a bit and I couldn't even get close (again, I found it far easier to use FM)...but I digress.

Sorry if I got too worked up over this, I was just amazed that I was the only one questioning whether it is a 303.
