If they were actually doing anything with their hardware then having hardware sends, good eqs, and possibly built in fx would be pretty important, and the price difference between a 12 channel and 32 channel mixer in the same line isn't really that much. I think in 90% of situations where you would need a mixer for any reason, 8-12 channels is enough, but it's better to have more than you would ever really need than not enough.
