funny thing, i think this has nothing to do with the genre its just about sales

Actually the final results weren't based on sales, but on votes. The top10 nominees were based on the best selling artists though.

Too bad they are too much on the progressive, housey vibe

Names like Burn in Noise and Zen Mechanics were also nominated. Great artists by the way, and certainly not housey.

i think it's actually good that they refuse a lot of labels. A lot of online shops just fload them with 1000 of releases each week. And to browse trough everything is just not possible.
Beatport select their music based on sells. This gives also the labels that are on beatport a better chance to sell more (since there are less releases)
I have discovered tones of artists that i would have never discover if it wasn't for beatport...

Beatport did this really smart thing with the charts of the producers I reallly like. Looking at the chart and having each tune from that chart, readily available to listen and download, has helped me a great deal to find new artists.

beatport is a couple guys from Colorado.
they probably get a lot of feedback from dj's and sales and this would influence them of course.
i think there are some real issues of people putting beatport on a pedestal and listening like its the word of god or something.
its just a shop.
if you see anything about "best" this or that in any part of the world you can be sure its actually an issue of
"best promotion" like the "dj" competitions each year.
but in any case- proggy psy is still psy to the non-psy world.
this is as close to psytrance that beatport and the mainstream electronic music industry will get folks
i guess its not out of line to mention that the mainstream electronic music industry hates psy with a passion.
it was supposed to die like all trends they think they started but it didn't.
but in anycase this means that the slightest hint of psy production and its psy psy all the way. (for beatport)
progressive (not psy prog) is slower and more like the tong/ibiza story...
well congratulations to the winners.
i am actually quite glad the "psy" category went proggy rather than fullon...
but about this Deadmaus... i mean come ON.
best?! its like rehash of all the 90's club anthems with a little post 2000 attitude and a funny mouse head hat. pure gimmick. musically nothing exceptional. not bad.
we the public are fucking stupid en masse it appears.

The important thing about beatport awards is that this is the music being played on most dancfloor and the one which is having the best sales betweeen DJ's.
So its about the music being listened in clubs, nothing more, nothing less.

@ Ocelot
I think that those couple of guys from Colorado, happen to be Ritchie Hawtin and John Acquaviva... If I am not mistaken, Beatport is their baby.
About this whole competition, thanks for the kind remarks but I don't really relate to it, neither I used the slogans or posters to publish it, exactly same as I don't like the DJ Mag competition, in the end of the day it doesn't show anything but talent of marketing in most of the cases.
About Beatport "hating" psy music, I wouldn't go that far actually. I think that indeed Psy is under rated in Beatport, but I think there is good reason for it actually. In many cases Psy represents very "non musical" music genre, and many times the production of the music is pretty shallow and samey. One could say that other genres represented on Beatport boast relatively more exciting compositions in general. Also Psy sells very little in comparison to other genres, so it makes sense that in the world where sales is the main attribute, those that sell the least would be in the end of the wishlist of the owner of the site, especially that the amount of small labels in Trance is simply never ending.
Having said that, it's nice, that finally progressive is counted for Psy in the Trance world. Few years ago it would be dismissed as Housey Club music at best, by the Trance headz. Also from playing around in the last years, I could see the change. Yeah there is little bit of Psy in what we do..

actuall i really loce the results! The only thing that bothers me is confusion between TOP 3 at Minimal section and Techno section... shame on the votes in Minimal section.. Young didnt do any progress during his last tracks... i think that even Sharam is more minimal than he is
and by the way: Yuli - congrats ad mount of respect to all of the others Iboga´s
