hello to my friends, & the ORION tweakheads... I'm just kinda curious bout this software...
I'm not too sure bout Fruity..
need some sound advice...
so tell me..
does Orion have like more trance oriented sounds, effects & stuff..
also if its possible to midi lock it to Reason with something like Midi OX/Yoke..??
does orion hog a lot of the CPU...???
I think I wud start with some texured sounds first & then work on freaking the occilators (I'm still getting the hang of REASON..quite a dementing software I must say...)

I never tried Orion, but maybe you can download the demo version and try it?

I used to use Orion for quite a while before Cubase....

I think the interface is great and intuitive, and some of the built in synths are great and I wish I had them as VSTis for cubase. It has a neat 303-style synth which is similar to the Muon Tau, but a tiny bit different in sound. It has a great sampler, and its really quick to write percussion material with the 'drum' module.

On the other hand, if you are used to reason, then why not stick with that then finally get cubase? Reason has the maelstrom for instance.

You can use Rewire to link Orion to Reason.

Orion doesnt use much CPU.... but the VSTis might do of course. If you minimize their windows then much of the CPU load dies down (when not playing back hehe). It gets very upset when the CPU load gets close to 100%.... fair enough I suppose.

None of FL, Orion, Reason are really in the league of Cubase SX/Nuendo, Logic.... but they all have their supporters and it's really a matter of which one you grew up with

I am currently using Orion for most of my creation process. I find the drums generator and the sampler really easy to use. I am also using Logic for final mixdown and for the mastering effects that Logic has. Orion unfortunately doesn't have the sound quality that Logic has, but I am rather new to logic and still am having trouble making stuff in Logic. As for CPU usage, Cubase and Logic eats more cpu when it's idle than Orion does.

If there were a way to rewire Orion into Logic, I would be all over it!! The native synths in Orion are really decent, but the same can be said for Logic's native synths as well. The one thing that I have noticed on my system as well as a friend of mines computer is that Orion is a bit more stable than Logic. For me I can pump out a track in a day or 2 if I had a good idea of how I want the track to sound in Orion. After a week, I am only 10% into making a track on logic. I'm sure this will change once I get a better semblance of what I'm doing, but Logic's learning curve is a pain in the ass.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.
