Yes, but I can only tell you what I do.
First solo your kick, I make sure it alone is about -6.0dB
Then solo your kick and your bass together, increase the bass till they are both about -4.5dB
Set your hats around -20dB or so, whatever sounds right.
If that doesn't sound correct with those numbers change them around a bit, perhaps that is a little loud for kick and bass, but I like it. |

That's how I do it: I turn up the volume, put my head on the bass speaker and feel if it's still knocking on my brain. If not, the bass line is too loud. Simple, workz! :0) |

Alittle off topic but I use VoxenangaSPAN to check the frequencies and what not of my sounds but i'm not sure how to use it to check the peak db of a sound.
Whats a good vst effect or technique to check the db of a sound? |

psilonaut: You can turn 'Peak Hold' to 'Inf' in the bottom right corner of VoxengoSPAN, to see the peaks in frequency domain.
Or if you use Cubase, it shows the peak value in dB for every channel on the mixer.
It is one of the two numbers just below each fader. One number is the value you have fader set at, and the other shows the peak value in dB. You can click the number to reset it.
Generally if I want to see how loud a channel is, I solo it, and check the peak dB on the master out, not on it's own channel.
