Strawberry short-cake.
there is part of the book that talks about a punishment.... a punishment makes anyone who goes gets it, go totally mad.
its this head-gear that you wear, with a TV screen inside. when you where it, the 'scientists' do something which makes you see an image that shows you the size of the entire universe compared to the size of you.
it shows you how small you are compared to the universe. the image / realization drives you mad.
the 'scientists' generate this image by passing a hight powered lazer through a piece of strawberry-short-cake.
