I second that. Onommon is one of the most gifted artists I've heard in a long time period.
With so many artists sounding the same these days, he's off on his own trip, creating intelligent, groovy, psychedlic music.
It's just a shame that's not what the big scenes are into these days.

should have been mentiond on 604 but i dont think this was
so this flew under almost everyones radar i think
very strange comp though
people i know but had no idea they made music are on here
not would i would call a real selction of sf trance though, as some acts are from Oregon, some north of sac , more like a NW comp,
little misleading IMO
that and theres house on it
guess its all encompasing though
but is nice to see some folks get some recognition

Hello everyone,
Since 1997 I have been involved in the electronic scene; first as an observer, then a dj, then a producer. I have had many wonderful experiences throughout this time; I’ve had the opportunity to travel around the world and meet many wonderful people.
It is with a heavy heart that I must announce my departure from the scene; the decision to do so has long been on my mind. I want to say to everyone who has helped me along the way - you are appreciated immensely. It has been an honor to share my music with the world and I hope the Jirah name will be remembered for having a spirit of love and energy; one of hope and peace. I will have a few more releases this year and my last 2 shows will be on Friday, April 22nd in San Francisco and Saturday, August 27th in Chicago. I’ve learned a lot from these last 8 years about life and how to make a decent groove, and I want to thank all of you for your support through the years!

Mulabi, No problem - on the santrancecisco site I plan to have more info about the artists and part 2 which is promising to be very interesting (and ALSO "under the radar")
Aeon, CD release party will be at the end of this month - I'll keep all posted on that.

Nystagmus is from Vancouver...
as well as Data Entry who did some releases with Hadshot quite a while ago...
Deliria (Mexico fame) and Solstice (Japan fame), both have roots here as well.
keep North America Trancing...

the first time i heard goa trance was in boston massachusetts back in 1995. the dj was Dutch from San Francisco. it changed my life and outlook on the music.
he would come rock the east coast at least once a month back then and really introduced the sound at parties with mostly house and breaks music. dutch would be crammed in the middle of the night, the bewitching hour.
i would have to say that ccc and thump radio definitely deserve a lot of recognition as well as KJ, adam ohana and the Purple Oz distribution days. you can't forget about all of the internet shops like chaos existence and spectral concepts.

from here it looks like KRI is the main man for bringin psytrance to asheville, NC, where it took off and we're still going today! he started the thump in greensboro NC with the ol lizzard brain  a couple years before that..... and thereby setting up the southeast in general since i dont know how early via his record shop evolution.. and by being crucially influential in infecting yours truly and numerous other doofers across the region. after he gave up many gigs as a successful breaks dj so he could play goa non stop for ever, he got the scene started in asheville full force in 1998, you can read more on his bio on touchsamadhi.com .
and all the unsung heroes pushing the genre on the frontier out in iowa, arkansas, wisconsin, etc!

If we extend to Canada 3 names must be mentionned :
Dj Neerav : Mixing goa trance since the beginning of the 90's. He si truely the godfather of our scene. He is presently more into ambiant sound and released his first compilation on Interchill last year (13th moon)
Aeon - Nuclear Ramjet : Max resleased his first album trance modulaire in 96, when there were hardly any trance parties in north America. Some tracks from his first album were still getting liscenced in 2002. Since then he joined Felix Richer to form Nuclear Ramjet who has 2 albums snd many 12" out. Their next album Mission to Sedna is almost finished and is quite amazing, their best so far.
Dj Rickam : Erick had been organising the best parties of eastern Canada since 95. He brought us the biggest name of the scene and he is by far the most dedicaded promotor in Montreal. The list of parties he did in the last 10 years is probably the biggest and most impressive in north america. He now brought up his production crew to a new level with Eclipse Festival. |
